💡The word «rambla» comes from Arabic ( رملة ) (ramlah) which means sand and in this case refers to the sandy deposit which would gather in the bed of the stream.
Most “Ramblas” that crossed through the middle of cities or towns were transformed into boulevards, avenues or wide pedestrian streets.

The use of attacks from the air was designed to create panic, kill civilians and destroy the moral of the “reds” (republicans / liberals). The same attacks happened the previous year (1937) in Gernica, Basque Country, by the German aviation of the Luftwaffe to show support to Franco.
Barcelona’s decided to not restore the facade to remember the bombs that felt in Sant Felip Neri square killing 42 people, most of them children.
