If you are considering opening your startup or you simply want to thrive within this sector while working for one, one big question surely arises: which is the place to be? We all tend to think about cities like Berlin or London, which have proven to have a great track record of innovation and growth companies. But perhaps there is a city that offers much more than those cities is #Barcelona.
Network effects
There is one thing no one can deny: there is a real and powerful network effect that plays a huge role in the startup world. A network effect we have been experiencing for the past decades in regions like Silicon Valley.
All the synergies and consequences that a clustering of companies offers is completely powerful:
There is more talent available, and talent from abroad feels attracted to the region.
Investors feel attracted to, so a higher pool of money is available for the different seed rounds (which can be bigger).
Partnership opportunities arise between startups and the list goes on and on.
In that sense, Barcelona currently offers those network effects, being ranked the 5th most attractive cities for digital experts.
Weather + Leisure opportunities
Let’s face it.
A-players love working. We could even say that they NEED to work. That is why 12 to 16-hour workdays are not uncommon inside the startup world.
That is, high performers need to relax. They need to disconnect. They need to enjoy any leisure activity that helps them turn off their minds from work and recharge their batteries.
Barcelona.
With perfect temperatures the whole year round, the city is simply the paradise for many foreigners.
Not only do you have its famous beach, but leisure opportunities to go out and have fun abound.
Who would deny a nice dinner with some of the best Mediterranean food?
Being surrounded by talent, being able to access resources or business angels is really important. But feeling at home, feeling comfortable and happy in the city in which you are loca
Meta wants you to feel the metaverse with high-tech haptic gloves.
VR visuals can only look so good, given current display technology, and we may already be approaching their limit. But what about our other senses? Facebook parent Meta's dream of an immersive metaverse makes big promises, but current VR interactivity is limited. The Oculus Quest's controllers, for example, still feel more appropriate for gaming than work. After immersive video, mixed reality, face tracking and spatial audio, haptic feedback could be the next frontier. Details of Meta's latest prototype hardware show where the research is heading.
The idea of slip-on vibrating gloves that let you feel the virtual world has been part of our sci-fi vision of VR for a long time. Meta's research arm has been working on haptic gloves for seven years, and even now the gloves that have been developed aren't yet portable. But they could be someday.

Boston Dynamics' bipedal robot Atlas already performs complex parkour exercises and somersaults.
Boston Dynamics, a company specializing in robotics, has shown its Atlas bipedal robot autonomously performing complex parkour exercises, from jumping to obstacle avoidance, and is even capable of somersaulting.
The U.S. company has assured that this is the first time that its Atlas robot has been able to successfully perform a complex obstacle course similar to sports such as parkour, as reported by Boston Dynamics in a statement.
In a video released Tuesday, the company has shown two Atlas robots, bipedal and with human-inspired anatomy, performing exercises on a series of wooden platforms, including climbing steps, jumping, overcoming obstacles, walking a narrow ribbon and somersaulting.
Boston Dynamics has explained that while actions of its robots such as somersaults will probably never be commercially useful, its goal is "to be able to perform the same range of movements and physical tasks as humans."
For the company, parkour was a good example of an exercise to develop with its Atlas robot, as it requires balancing a variety of movements and being able to link them together.
Although the device is still far from being fully autonomous, the goal is to "create a solid foundation for tackling the next set of research problems."

The General Motors presents a flying Cadillac that can land on rooftops and travel at 90km/h.
General Motors presented this Tuesday the concept of a flying Cadillac.
The model, named by the creators 'VTOL' (from the English 'Vertical Take-Off and Landing'), is technically a drone capable of using the roofs of buildings as a heliport. It has the capacity to transport only one person.
Regarding the technical characteristics of the Cadillac, the developers claim that it will have a 90 kW electric motor, an ultra-light body and four rotors. It will be able to fly at a speed of up to 90 km/h.
According to the producers, the biggest advantage of the device is that it avoids traffic jams. It also produces zero emissions and allows the passenger to take care of his own business during the trip, thanks to the automatic pilot.
General Motors' chief designer, Mike Simcoe, referred to the VTOL as "the Cadillac of urban mobility". "The VTOL is key to General Motors' vision for a multi-modal future.

Can a Robot Help People Overcome Loneliness?
A social robot expected to hit the market this summer is touted as being able to help older adults and children who need companions.
Knowing a loved one is lonely can be hard to take.
Especially when you can’t give them much of your time.
If only there was someone who could provide additional companionship.
Enter iPal, a social robot designed by the company AvatarMind. Its function is to act as a companion to those who need one most.
“We’ve done a number of shows over the past six months, and a very common comment I get is, ‘I have an elderly parent at home, but I have to work for a living, so a big portion of the time they are home alone with no one to talk to,’” John Ostrem, chief executive officer of AvatarMind, told Healthline.
Ostrem says iPal is perfect for older adults because it can help them keep track of everyday activities, such as taking their medication, as well as provide alerts for medical emergencies, such as falling down.
The robot is also a source of entertainment.
“If the elder likes 1940s music, iPal can be set to play it. They can talk to it like a person too,” said Ostrem. “It’s not a replacement for a human, but I think it’s a reasonable way to improve the lives of people who don’t have access to a community or are stuck in their home.”
A range of emotions
iPal was originally designed to be a friend for children.
The robot talks like a child who is 4 to 8 years of age. It also has 25 motors that allow it to make humanlike movements.
It remembers the preferences and interests of the child. It can also dance, tell stories, play games, and provide educational information.
The robot even taps into what a child is feeling with built-in sensors that enable it to touch and listen to speech.
Its emotion management system senses and responds to happiness, depression, and loneliness. It can act happy when the child is happy and encouraging when the child is sad.

Flying cars may seem futuristic – but from commercial jetpacks to personal air taxis, they are already here. Here’s how they could transform the way we commute, work and live.
the autonomous urban aircraft market is still a bit of a Wild West. Dozens of start-up companies are competing to develop commercial jetpacks, flying motorbikes and personal air taxis. Venture capitalists, auto and aviation corporations (even rideshare company Uber, with its ambitious Uber Elevate) are staking claims on the burgeoning industry, which may be worth as much as $1.5tn (£1.1tn) by 2040. Meanwhile, aviation authorities hash out the policies and safety standards that will govern this new realm of transport.
Germany-based Volocopter, for instance, has marketed its VoloCity craft as the first commercially licensed electrically powered air taxi, a vehicle which will eventually run without a pilot. “It’s like an Uber Black or any other premium service,” says Fabien Nestmann, vice president of public affairs at Volocopter.
With a few key differences, that is. Initially, the VoloCity will only have room for a single passenger. That will mean a higher cost per ride at first, but Volocopter hopes to build consumer confidence before transitioning to a full-autonomy

PATÍ CATALÀ, also known as Catalan skate, is a monotype class of single-sail light sailing boat. Characterized by being a single-catamaran catamaran of the marconi type without boom and the peculiarity of not having a rudder or orza. The handling of the boat is carried out with the movement and distribution of the weight of the skipper himself along the width of the deck of the ship and with the neck, which sends the sail. It is specially designed to beach on the beach when lacking orza or rudder.
Designed by the Catalan brothers Mongé in 1942 is the formal and advanced development of a gadget that was born on the beaches of Badalona at the beginning of the century. In principle it had no sail and the propulsion was done rowing, but it was rudimentary and heavy. Later the candle was added. Finally, the last creators of the class lightened it and added the steel bar, forming the boat exactly as we know it now.
