Everywhere you go, graffiti and street art are there already. In less than 50 years, these urban art forms have spread to every part of the planet and become a complex culture in their own right. While some look right past it, others are curious. What does it mean? Who are the people responsible and why do they do it? The more you look into it, there more there is to see. Part art appreciation, pa
rt anthropology, exploring urban art takes us down a rabbit hole that leads to deeper enjoyment of the city and the opportunity to participate in important cultural conversations that are hiding in plain sight. Talking Walls Barcelona hosts a daily discussion and walking tour designed to inform visitors about the current state of graffiti and street art using Barcelona as a case study. Open to all, the group meets every morning at 11:00am from Monday through Friday in downtown Barcelona, not far from the Ramblas. Our meeting point is a park with legal walls where painters are at work most days brushing up on their skills. We’ll talk a little bit about the history and trajectory of street art in Barcelona and the world, then we'll dive into the Raval neighborhood, one of Barcelona's most interesting and diverse areas. On our walk we'll point out the past, present and future of street art as it continues to unfold in Barcelona. We'll see and discuss pieces by local artists including tags, graffiti burners, paste-ups, stick-ups, stencils, installations, community sponsored murals, and of course, lots and lots of throw-ups. We’ll end our survey at Anden graffiti shop and gallery where street artists from here and away present rotating expositions.
