Montserrat, a striking mountain range located about 30 miles northwest of Barcelona, is one of Catalonia’s most revered and scenic destinations. The name "Montserrat" means "serrated mountain," aptly describing the jagged peaks that rise dramatically from the landscape, creating a natural wonder that has inspired awe for centuries. But Montserrat is more than just a geological marvel—it is a cultural, historical, and spiritual icon of the region. ✨⛰️
At the heart of Montserrat is the Santa Maria de Montserrat Monastery, a Benedictine abbey nestled in the mountains. Founded in the 11th century, the monastery has long been a site of pilgrimage, drawing visitors to see its revered statue of the Black Madonna (La Moreneta). The Black Madonna, a small Romanesque wooden figure of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Christ, is considered a symbol of Catalan identity and has been a focal point for devotion for centuries. Legend holds that the statue was found in a cave on Montserrat by shepherds, further heightening its mystical significance. 🏛️ ⛪
During our tour, you'll experience Montserrat in peace, far from the crowds. As the sun rises, you’ll watch the monastery and the jagged peaks slowly change color, a breathtaking transformation that makes for stunning photos and unforgettable memories. After exploring the basilica and taking a peaceful walk to the Santa Maria de Montserrat Monastery, you’ll finish the morning with a delicious traditional Catalan brunch. You'll return to Barcelona feeling fulfilled, with plenty of time left to explore the city further. 🌄🙏

Do you recognize which artist this work belongs to? 🧐
Yes, it is indeed a masterpiece by Antoni Gaudí! 😍✨

At the foot of Tibidabo, a 15th-century fortress was built as the residence of King Martin I of Aragon. In 1900, Jaume Figueres bought the estate and commissioned Antoni Gaudí to redesign it. Between 1900 and 1909, Gaudí created Bellesguard Tower, inspired by medieval castles. Owned by the Guilera family for over 70 years, the gardens are now open for visitors to admire Gaudí’s work.💫
Torre Bellesguard, also known as Casa Figueresholds, holds many symbolic elements, and one of the most fascinating is the dragon that Gaudí designed on the terrace as part of the tower’s base. The building’s structure and architectural details, such as mosaics and sharp lines, also reference the figure of the dragon, giving the structure an aura of mystery. On the roof, you can find slate (stone) illustrating the dragon’s tail, with raised sections creating the illusion of its nostrils. The dragon’s eyes are represented by two windows on either side of the creature’s profile. Additionally, the name “Bellesguard” means “beautiful views.” 🐉💫

It’s definitely worth getting lost in the hidden corners of this masterpiece! 🤩🌺

Welcome back to one of our favorite series, Our Guides #1 Tour! Today, we’ll discover more about Antoine’s favorite adventure!✨

Antoine’s top choice from Spanish Trails is the “Cliffs and Coves: Hiking in Costa Brava” tour along the stunning Costa Brava.🛥️ 💫

“I am passionate about leading tours along the Costa Brava and, especially our “cliffs and coves” on the Camí de Ronda, because it allows me to blend my love for history and nature. Walking along these ancient coastal paths, originally used by fishermen and guards, gives me the chance to share stories of the region’s past, from pirate lore to its role in local maritime trade. The rugged cliffs and secluded coves we encounter offer a perfect backdrop to this journey through time. Hiking these six miles, I feel connected to the history and culture, and I love showing visitors how the landscape shaped the lives of those who lived here. After a day of exploring, we reward ourselves with fresh, local seafood, which adds a perfect touch of the region’s culinary heritage to the experience. “ ✨🐬🌊 🇪🇸
