Santiago de Compostela
14 August 2024

After days of determination, perseverance, and reflection, our team has successfully completed the Camino de Santiago.
Arriving in Santiago marks not only the end of a physical journey but also the culmination of a profound collective pilgrimage.
Hopefully, each step we took together strengthened our bonds, deepened our understanding, and brought us closer to each other and ourselves.
The path was long and challenging, but the shared experiences and mutual support have been transformative.
We are filled with gratitude for the journey, the lessons learned, and the incredible camaraderie we found along the way.

Congratulations and thanks a lot pilgrims.

Camino de Santiago (Camino Portugues) Diary

Day 6, Wednesday, 14th August
Padron to Santiago de Compostela
26 km

Padron

The town is located at the estuary of the Ulla and Sar rivers, near Iria Flavia, the river bank where the boat carrying the body of the Apostle would have come to rest. It is therefore a central place in what has been called the Traslatio de Santiago: the arrival point of the maritime transfer of the body of Santiago and the starting point of its overland transfer to Compostela. Santiago de Compostela

We finally arrived in Santiago de Compostela and were able to attend the Pilgrim's Mass. We were also very lucky to witness the Botafumeiro. Afterward, we enjoyed a well-deserved Galician meal before heading to our accommodation.

It was indeed a very rewarding experience - physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Camino de Santiago (Camino Portugues) Diary

Day 3, Sunday, 11th August
Redondela to Pontevedra
18 km

We started the walk from Praia de Cesantes to take the coastal route going to Pontevedra.

This route provides a mix of historical, natural, and local cultural experiences, making it a rewarding journey to Pontevedra.

1. Puente Romano: This ancient Roman bridge is a historical gem. As you cross it, you'll be treading on centuries of history. The stone arches and worn path reflect the long heritage of Roman engineering. The views from the bridge, particularly of the surrounding landscape, make for a memorable stop.

2. Praia Xunqueira: A serene spot, perfect for a break to enjoy the coastal scenery. In this area, you'll find convenient amenities including picnic tables, a playground, free and clean toilets, and water faucets. These facilities make the walk comfortable and family-friendly, perfect for relaxing before continuing the Camino.

3. Rustic Barn Cafe: As we continue our journey, we stumble upon a charming rustic barn cafe. This spot offers some refreshments, fruits, and souvenir items.

4. Here's a revised version with corrected grammar:

5. Vintage car parade.

6. Christmas lights are on, and there's a local fiesta in Pontevedra.

A bonus Camino experience through the town center, despite the mostly uphill walk from Redondela to Pontevedra 😁. We treated ourselves to an Italian dinner as a reward.

Bardenas Reales is a striking semi-desert natural park located in the southeast of Navarre, Spain, spanning around 42,000 hectares. This unique landscape is characterized by its arid, almost otherworldly terrain, with dramatic rock formations, deep ravines, and expansive plains. The area is known for its distinct badlands, shaped over millennia by erosion from wind and water, creating an environment that appears almost lunar.

In recognition of its ecological significance and unique biodiversity, Bardenas Reales was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2000. The park is home to a variety of plant and animal species adapted to the harsh, dry conditions, including several rare and endangered species. Its importance lies not only in its natural beauty but also in the role it plays in preserving the unique ecosystems found within this semi-arid environment.

Bardenas Reales is divided into several distinct zones, each with its own unique characteristics, including the White Bardena, known for its clay and gypsum soils, and the Black Bardena, which has more vegetation. The area is also a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and photography, offering visitors a chance to explore its rugged landscapes and enjoy its unique scenery.
