st, it is one of the loveliest in the Axarquia region. With a population of over 3,500, it is slightly larger than the neighbouring villages; a bustling and attractive town. Though Cómpeta has many modern facilities it remains a rural Spanish village: local farmers still set out early each morning to tend the olive, almond and tropical fruit groves, as well as the vineyards that produce the well known Cómpeta wine. This harvest is celebrated every August in the Noche del Vino with singing, dancing and plenty of food and drink.
