Welcome to Pulieru - unique self catering accommodation for 2-6 people, with stunning Picos Europa views.

Surrounded by nature it's the perfect place to unwind in all seasons, whilst not far from the Picos mountains and rugged coastline of Northern Spain. Pulieru is the perfect place to switch off and unwind at any time of year. At the same time, located between the mountains and Asturian coastline there’s no shortage of places to explore. In addition the local market town of Cangas de Onís is only 10

km away, with all the amenities you need to have a great stay. The farmhouse and attached barn were restored in 2021 to create a special place to stay. Offering a spacious and light home, with a clean modern finish but mixed with some old features of the original farmhouse. THE SETTING
You’ll be surrounded by nature and rolling hills, in an ideal location for visiting the mountains or the rugged Asturian coastline. After a day exploring you can retreat to your warm and cozy traditional home, renovated in 2021 to a modern standard with efficient aerothermal under-floor heating, modern glazing and a wood burning stove. From your toasty vantage point you’ll be able to watch the changing landscapes through the enormous windows of the lounge, kitchen/diner or covered balcony on the upper floor, the balcony is perfect for an alfresco breakfast. THE LIVING SPACE
The lounge has books, games and good wifi to enjoy Netflix and Spotify on the smart TV and bluetooth speaker, so you can really feel at home. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with low energy appliances (oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washing machine). BEDROOMS
Pulieru is ideal for 2-6 people, with flexibility for couples, families or friends. Two ensuite bedrooms are located downstairs, one in the house, and one in the adjoining former barn, each has the option of one super-king-sized bed (180 x 200cm) or 2 single beds (90 x 200cm). The large lounge has a real fold-down king-sized bed (160 x 200m), not a sofa-bed, and it’s own shower-room. OUTSIDE
The private terrace in front of the house, with bbq and outside kitchen is a great spot to watch the sun go down, accompanied by the gentle jangle of Asturian cow bells (and possibly a gin and tonic). OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
Family items such as a travel cot, high chair, stair gate and baby bath are also available if required. The house is totally self-contained, not connected to other buildings and is solely for the use of one group of guests at a time. It is part of a traditional farm that also has a beautiful original barn, a small workshop and another restored barn 50 metres away from the main house, where the owners (Ben and Jen) live. The buildings sit on 2.5 hectares of pasture and woodland which you’re welcome to explore. During the renovation it was important to us to retain traditional features. For this reason you’ll find a blend of old and new, for instance modern grey windows alongside rustic wooden pillars on the balcony and chestnut joists that have been repurposed as furniture. Access to the farm is via a 200 meter gravel track – good for standard cars, but sporty cars with low ground clearance may struggle.

A great evening of wine tasting at La Guarnicioneria Gastrobar in Cangas de Onis with the unconventional winemakers Los Insensatos las night. Some great and different vinos blancos from southern Spain to try, great snacks to accompany, great hosts at La Guarni. And of course great company and great fun. Thanks everyone!

Easter processions in Avilés!

Avilés often takes third place to the other cities of Asturias; Oviedo & Gijon because of its industrial outskirts, but it shouldn’t. It’s historic center is beautiful, and it’s Easter processions are impressive.

Ian has been the earliest of the early birds, he contacted us by email and has already booked the first 2 weeks of August 2023, but there are plenty of other tasty worms to be had!

If you visit in April you might see one of these handsome Bullfinches! (but they apparently eat tree buds and seeds, not worms, no matter how early they are! )

We love paths less well traveled . This route was very special, in a beautiful ancient beech forest, but as we hacked our way through spiky bushes and our friend helpfully said ‘look for the wild boar trails’ 🤣 it became clear this wasn’t going on our list of trails to recommend to our guests.

Nos encantan los caminos mas tranquilos . Esta ruta era muy especial, en un hermoso bosque antiguo de hayas, pero cuando estábamos rodeados de arbustos puntiagudos y nuestro amigo dijo 'busca los senderos de los jabalís' 🤣 quedó claro que esto no iba a estar en nuestra lista de senderos para recomendar a nuestros huéspedes.

New residents at www.pulieru.com !
There are many cats living wild around us, normally you're lucky to get within 50m of them, but recently a tabby has been getting braver and closer to us.
About 6 weeks ago we saw her move 3 tiny fluffy bundles across our parking area, and seemingly into our un-renovated barn. She's been back and forth to the barn ever since.
We've been unable to see or hear anything in the barn, so this week we borrowed a wildlife camera from good mate Steve, and it seems there's plenty going on in there when the scary humans aren't about!
In fact there are 4 tiny kittens!
Mum's got her work cut out!

3 YEARS AGO TODAY
We signed the papers and collected the keys to Pulieru......

- It seems like yesterday
- It seems like a lifetime ago
(Time's a funny thing isn't it)

Anyway, we've swapped our Overalls and Wellie-Boots for Hammocks since then (occasionally, photos included), and we welcomed guests number 14 this week, actually our first proper booking, they're lovely people. Things are going incredibly well and we're so happy, delighted, relieved, chuffed, ecstatic, amazed, pleased that the trials and tribulations seem to be worth it, and glad to have some hammock time!

Just popped to the end of our road to watch "La Vuelta a España" wizz by.

Today's stage is all around us in the Picos de Europa National Park, and Ponga Natural Park.

Today we wanted to share with you this video of our super lovely and very talented neighbours who run the small cheesery at the top of the hill.

Asturias is full of very local, artisan cheeses and our specific area is famous for Gamoneu. Delicious, lightly smoked cheese that's aged in caves in the Picos mountains.

We think the video is fantastic and it gives you a little context of Pulierus setting too!

Excuse us blowing our own trumpet a bit, but we could not be happier with the way our first two bookings have gone, and it seems the guests feel the same! These are the amazing reviews they have posted online for us (we promise that they were not friends before visiting, and we didnt pay them a euro!), thanks guys!

What we liked - The house is located in a privileged enclave with views to envy any viewpoint that you can enjoy from the terrace, kitchen, dining room and lounge on the upper floor thanks to the precise design of the house and it's large windows. It is perfectly equipped with everything you may need and more, and everything with an exceptional quality. The hosts left us charming welcome details. The location is very close to the town of Cangas, and at the same time when you are on the Pulieru hill you feel the tranquility and direct contact with nature. Access is comfortable the last km. is a road for a single vehicle but it is short and without traffic, and the host provided us with perfect instructions on how to get there. The host also supplied a detailed catalog with information about the house and the surroundings. It is perfect to enjoy the nearby beaches and the Picos de Europa and Ponga natural parks, and you will want to reserve some time simply to enjoy the house. They have reading and board games in English, and they have quality Wi-Fi, and TV with internet access and Netflix if you can stop looking at the landscape.

A big day at Pulieru today - our first guests arrived 🥂 🎉!
We’ve come out to Cangas (to enjoy an evening not cleaning and ironing!) The town is buzzing and it’s great to see it full of life, with live music too!
Thanks for everyone’s lovely comments on our precious post. The bookings have gone well with only a couple of weeks free up to mid September.
We feel a little overwhelmed (but in a good way)!!
