Renovated village house in the heart of the traditional pueblo blanco of Casarabonela. The house lies on an old, narrow street with no direct vehicular access.

Nestling in the foothills of the Sierra de las Nieves and commanding stunning views across the Guadalhorce Valley down to Malaga and the Mediterranean. Casa Limonero is a charming two bedroomed village house in the heart of the pretty pueblo blanco of Casarabonela. The property has recently been fully renovated to appeal to guests but retains its special character. Spacious, bright and comfortable

accommodation is complemented by a large roof terrace commanding incredible views across the Guadalhorce Valley down to Málaga and the Mediterranean. Please be aware that this is a typical village house with steep, narrow stairs unsuitable for children or individuals with restricted mobility. Furthermore the two bedrooms, although entirely independent, are interlinked thus access to one is via the other, which is not uncommon in rural village houses. Parking is available at the nearby municipal car park from which it is a short walk to the property. There is no TV at the property, but there is fibre internet so feel free to bring your own device for streaming . There is a bluetooth speaker to stream music from your mobile library. Heating and cooling is provided via portable devices - floor standing fans and a gas stove/oil filled radiators. Casa Limonero is a non-smoking property. The two bedrooms both have king size (150cm) beds with Egyptian cotton bedlinen. Quality towels are also provided. The fully equipped kitchen includes all the domestic appliances large and small, and there is a further fridge at roof terrace level for those all important cooling beverages. Casarabonela is such a refreshing change from the congestion of the coast and offers the opportunity for guests to experience a small Andalusian town surrounded by staggeringly beautiful countryside. You will find everyone so friendly and welcoming. Small we may be, but our heart is large! You can stumble out of the front door and straight into the bakery for the freshest possible bread and later take a few steps further for tapas at bar-restaurant Tomate Algo where Juan and his family will look after you and serve delicious, freshly prepared food. Check out the menú del día - three courses for 10 euros! Such value is characteristic of small, traditional villages like this and you will not be disappointed with the choice on offer. Casarabonela is typical pueblo blanco with its origins in Moorish Spain, the remnants of which can still be seen in the castle ruins and the old Arabic Quarter. The municipality is home to 2,500 citizens, many of whom live in the surrounding countryside where local agriculture focuses on olives (and truly exceptional extra virgin olive oil), citrus fruit and almonds. The pueblo is a working Spanish town well served by amenities (two banks, a pharmacy, butcher, fishmonger, mini market, health centre, multiple bars and restaurants) and also boasts one of the most beautiful municipal piscinas in all of Andalucía! Set against a backdrop of the mountains, the pool is allied to an amazing Argentinian barbecue restaurant offering the best views in the village. Truly Casarabonela has it all, and being only 40 minutes from the airport and the beaches of the Costa del Sol it makes for the perfect away-from-it-all break without driving for hours to get there. Easy access to Córdoba, Seville, Granada, the Sierra Nevada, the Caminito del Rey, El Chorro gorge, Ardales lakes, Ronda, and please do not overlook the truly wonderful Málaga city itself. Málaga is not just an airport! Enjoy.

Two things are happening this Saturday in the pueblo. The outdoor painting competition has become an annual event and produces some enchanting impressions of our lovely village and its surroundings. It may be too late to enter now, but budding artists can sign up next year! If you are not standing in a field with a paintbrush then maybe you'd prefer a gentle amble around the village learning all about the history of Casarabonela instead. I say 'gentle amble', but Casarabonela trickles down the mountainside and thus the streets have a certain 'incline' to them! Burn off a few calories and reward yourself with a refreshing glass and a tapa or two at one of our many bars and restaurants. Enjoy!

Dos cosas están pasando este sábado en el pueblo. El concurso de pintura al aire libre se ha convertido en un evento anual y produce impresiones encantadoras de nuestro hermoso pueblo y su entorno. Puede que sea demasiado tarde para entrar ahora, pero los artistas en ciernes pueden inscribirse el año que viene! Si no estás parado en el campo con un pincel entonces tal vez preferirías un amable paseo sin prisa alrededor del pueblo aprendiendo todo sobre la historia de Casarabonela en su lugar. Digo "amable paseo sin prisa", pero Casarabonela se derrama por la montaña y por lo tanto las calles tienen un cierto "inclinación" para ellas! Quema unas calorías y recompense con una refrescante copa y una tapa o dos en uno de nuestros muchos bares y restaurantes. ¡Disfruten!

So, what is 'Pipeo'? It literally means 'pipe' in Spanish, but in Casarabonela it is a delicious, hearty soup! A speciality of this beautiful pueblo blanco and as such deserving of its very own celebratory day 🥳 Be there and be prepared to need a bit of a lie down! When I say 'hearty', I mean filling 🍲 🥰 Once you have revived why not join the community enjoying live music in the evening? It's all there, and if music is not, for you, the food of love then surely El Pipeo is 😉

¿Qué es "El Pipeo"? En Casarabonela es una sopa deliciosa y sustancioso! Una especialidad de este hermoso pueblo blanco y como tal merece su propio día de celebración 🥳 Estar allí y estar preparado para necesitar un poco de descanso! Cuando digo "sustancioso", quiero decir múy sustancioso 🍲 🥰 Una vez que hayas revivido ¿por qué no unirte a la comunidad disfrutando de música en directo por la noche? Está todo ahí, y si la música no es, para ti, "la comida del amor”, seguramente El Pipeo lo es 😉

Casa Limonero is available for booking over the Rondeles festivities so get in touch if you'd like to experience this memorable event which commences with the Ruta de Tapa 9th & 10th December, moves on to the Ruta Gastronómica on the 11th, and culminates in the spectacle that is the Rondeles festival itself on the 12th.

So good to see the calendar of events in Casarabonela returning to normal. The Recreación Histórica was cancelled the year before Covid due to the threat of inclement weather, and then got shelved because of the pandemic, so its return is long overdue and very, very welcome. So much work goes into events like these and the efforts of the villagers should be rewarded with good attendance. You will love it! 🥰

Es tan bueno ver el calendario de eventos en Casarabonela volviendo a la normalidad. La Recreación Histórica fue cancelada el año anterior a Covid debido a la amenaza de un clima inclementario, y luego fue archivada por la pandemia, por lo que su regreso es muy atrasado y muy, muy bienvenido. Tanto trabajo se realiza en eventos como estos y los esfuerzos de los aldeanos deben ser recompensados con buena asistencia. ¡Te encantará! 🥰

It is not necessary to stay at Casa Limonero to enjoy the pueblo and its history. The tourist office offers guided walks/tours for free (advance registration required). You can learn about the colourful history of this Moorish village, or alternatively spend time at the renowned botanical gardens with its collection of cacti and succulents from around the world. No es necesario alojarse en la Casa Limonero para disfrutar del pueblo y su historia. La oficina de turísmo ofrece paseos/excursiones guiadas gratuitamente (se requiere registro previo). Usted puede aprender sobre la colorida historia de este pueblo moro, o alternativamente pasar tiempo en los jardines botánicos de renombre con su colección de cacti y suculentos de todo el mundo.
