Thursday 9th February 2023

‘Life is full of the everyday’ this is what gives it form and meaning. There is no meaning when we watch the horrors of the aftermath of the earthquake in Syria and Turkey. The mothers kiss, the excited children, breakfast, warmth and a future all gone for so many. It is heart-breaking to watch and listen to all the accounts. A salutary start to my day as I contemplate what must never be taken for granted. A kiss, a hug, a declaration of love and the delicious minutiae of life. The important basis of our lives in 2023.

School dinners occupy some today as we return to the adult equivalent. It was the puddings of school that contributed to my sweet tooth. Custard, how I loved custard and even rice pudding and semolina with jam still restores memories. What we will eat today is a far cry from those days as it is possible to be. The Hotel School in our Soller High School opens their dining room to the public every Thursday, during term time. A 15 euros, four-course lunch is served. All cooked and prepared by the students under the supervision of their tutors. School Dinners, of the superior kind, is what is on offer today.

The sun is forecast to come out today and remain for days. The rainy interlude is over for now and now it is tidy up time. Soon be time to welcome the families arriving for half term.
