Finca Avedin is a traditional Spanish farmhouse which has been lovingly transformed into a wonderful country house full of beautiful art, antiques and Moroccan artefacts. There are 7 spacious bedrooms, all en-suite, so there is plenty of room for friends and family to gather, relax and enjoy this natural paradise. The property is set within its own glorious 15 acre estate of cork forest, wild wood

lands, olive and almond groves on the mountain slopes of La Serrania de Ronda and just a few minutes from the pretty village of Gaucin, a classic 'pueblo blanco'. There's a spectacular (chemical-free) infinity pool with amazing views towards the Crestilina Ridge in one direction, the ruins of Gaucin's Moorish castle, Castillo del Aguila (Eagle's Castle) in another, and towards the Costa del Sol beyond. And if you're able to drag yourself away from this oasis in the countryside, there is so much to explore from Gaucin - the beaches of the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz, Ronda, Seville and Morocco are all possible day trip destinations.

This side of the house was unloved, overgrown and difficult to access but we’ve moved fences and quite a bit of landscaping so now you can follow the path that leads all the way around the gardens and past this majestic palm tree. 🌴

Last year most of our projects focused on the outside but we did give the kitchen a bit of a makeover. We wanted to keep the same rustic feel but we added new appliances and freshened it up.

Amazing what a fresh coat of white paint can do!! 😊 We also added a lawn which was on our wish list and a bit of a luxury in southern Spain due to the long dry Summers. We sourced a Moroccan grass which needs hardly any water and invested in underground irrigation to minimise evaporation. ➡️ Swipe for a before shot.

We now grow.... kiwi fruit, avocados, figs, lemons, oranges, watermelons, cantaloupes, chillis, grapes, lettuce, spinach, courgettes, pomegranates, grapefruits, garlic, strawberries, blackberries , blueberries, pears, apples, plums, comquats, caviar lime, tomatoes, persimmon, mushrooms, aubergine, olives, almonds, walnuts and all the herbs...

Travel might be on hold for now but it doesn’t stop us dreaming of lazy days by the pool.

Our housekeeper Victoria and her husband live in self-contained private accommodation near the main house. They have been looking after Finca Avedin and our guests for many years and will help make your holiday even more enjoyable.

We’ve tried to think of everything you might need while you’re here, including important extras like hairdryers, a DVD player, cots and high chairs. Our English-speaking property manager is only a phone call away if you need anything else during your stay.

Gaucín and the surrounding area

Unlike many holiday homes in the area, you can walk to Gaucín from Finca Avedin – it takes around 15 minutes (uphill on the way there, downhill on the way back!) and it’s definitely worth a visit.

Gaucín is a charming pueblo blanco (white village) perched on the crest of the Sierra del Hacho. At 626 metres above sea level, it boasts sweeping views towards the Mediterranean, the Rock of Gibraltar and across to Morocco. The winding, narrow streets of whitewashed houses are enchanting and you’ll be greeted warmly by the people.

Here are our top five reasons to spend your holiday in this beautiful part of southern Spain:

1. Sport & outdoor pursuits

With the Sierra Cristellina, Rio Genal, Cañón de las Buitreras and other areas of natural beauty nearby, there are wonderful opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, canyoning, horse riding, fishing and wild swimming. 2. Nature & wildlife

The area is a paradise for nature lovers, birdwatchers and stargazers. Wander past lupins, fig trees and sweet chestnut, keep an eye out for deer, dragonflies and wild boar and enjoy the clearest of night skies. Because Gaucín is on a major migratory route to Africa, birds are in abundance – you might spot kestrels, kites, eagles, buzzards, golden orioles, bee-eaters and many other species during your stay.

3. History, art & culture

There are several historical and religious sites to explore in Gaucín, such as Castillo del Águila and Iglesia de San Sebastian, as well as festivals throughout the year. The Mediterranean light and landscapes of Spain’s pueblos blancos have inspired many artists and Gaucín has a strong community of painters, sculptors and photographers. Each Spring, local artists open their studios to the public.

4. Eating out

From tapas to fine dining, Gaucín has a number of cafés and restaurants serving traditional Andalucian and international cuisine. Enjoy local specialities such as gazpacho (chilled soup) and suspiro (meringue) or, if you prefer a picnic or cooking for yourself, head to the farmers’ market that takes place on the first Saturday of each month (March to October).

5. Days out

If you’d like some beach time, it’s less than 45 minutes drive to San Luis de Sabinillas, Barrio del Castillo and Estepona. You can also visit prehistoric caves, wineries and fascinating cities such as Ronda (45 minutes), Marbella (1 hour), Gibraltar (1.25 hours), Tarifa (1.5 hours), Jerez (2 hours), Cádiz (2.25 hours), Seville (2.5 hours) and Granada (3 hours) from Finca Avedin.
