We love reading your positive Tripadvisor reviews, thank you for staying with us, and we look forward to seeing you again!👇

"We just finished a stellar week walking the land and sea trek. It exceeded all our expectations, which were high to begin with. This is a remarkable way to experience the richness of this part of Spain and the warmth of the people who live there. Mark and Shelly made sure we had everything we needed (and I asked a lot of questions). We really enjoyed getting to know them. The hotels were top-notch. We had lovely food along the way. The walks were doable and the GPS never let us get off course. We hope to come back again and bring our grown children."✅

⛰️Mountains to Sea Cycle Tour with Food Experience🚴 - Day 6

After leaving Girona the trail crosses the Selva depression, characterised by a patchwork of croplands and forests. On a clear day, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the eastern Pyrenees before crossing the Ridaura valley and skirting the edge of the Gavarres an area covered in unspoiled forest. The route runs gently down to Castell d’Aro then on to the fishing town of Palamos where you will stay in the Hotel Trias beautifully decorated in a colonial style overlooking the beach and the port.

In the evening you will participate in a show cooking demonstration or a cooking class. Here fish from the market will be transformed into typical Catalan dishes. Level: Easy / Distance: 43km😀

Check in to the Trias Hotel, Palamos

⛰️Mountains to Sea Cycle Tour with Food Experience🚴 - Day 5

Today you will enjoy a cooking experience like no other. In the morning you will be met by a local foodie that will guide you through the old town and all of the local hidden gems of this beautiful city. The guide will tell you the history of the city and the culture.

On this 4-hour guided walking tour, you will taste mouth-watering tapas, cheeses, olive oil, and traditional local pastries like churros, anchovies, esqueixada and artisanal Turró (nougat!) in Europe´s best preserved Jewish quarter, delicious local wines and much more…

And of course, HAM! Or ´pernil´ as it is called in Catalan…(jamón in Spanish)
From a Master carver, you´ll learn about the different types (and parts!) of Spanish ham… and how to carve the perfect slice!

Besides local gastronomy, our local wine cannot be missed! Experience unique Denomination of Origin Emporda Wines, delicious Cava, and sweet ratafia!

You will learn more about authentic, traditional Mediterranean Catalan cuisine through tasting, talking, sharing, and savoring. This interactive food tour is the best way to understand everyday Catalan life and culture.

As Girona officially is home to one of the world´s best restaurants ´El Celler de Can Roca´, we will finalize our tour with a hot ice cream-filled bun at Rocambolesc, Girona´s most famous home-made ice cream shop – inspired by W***y Wonka – with the seal of quality by the youngest of the Roca brothers, pastry chef Jordi Roca.

If this is not enough we can book you into a cooking class for an additional €79

There will then be free time to enjoy Girona.

Make time to stop in a couple of the rustic Pyrenees medieval villages where you feel you have stepped back in time. The route offers some fantastic scenery, rugged landscapes, and rivers. Head back to La Rectoria late afternoon for the second evening of fine dining.

Along the way, you visit the local Cooperativa de La Vall d’en Bas where the local farmers sell their produce. The restaurant attached serves a typical Catalan menu, this is the perfect place to have a late lunch. The menu del dia (menu of the day) is always a treat.

"We went in the Easter holidays and had a fantastic holiday. The routes were all clearly marked out and were very easy to follow. The bikes were in excellent order and we were able to manage the distances with ease. The 3 hotels were all very different but all special in their own way. Mark and Shelly were excellent hosts and went out of their way to make our holiday special. We will definitely be coming back!"

🚲Cycling For Food And Wine Lovers🍷 - Day 6

This morning you take the coastal path to one of the last unspoiled beaches on the Costa Brava. Cycle along to the port, visit the maritime museum, and watch the fisherman bring in their catch of the day. Take the bike along the beach path that links Palamos to Torre Valentina and watch the wind and kite surfers ride the waves.

We have booked you into a local bodega for a complimentary glass of wine and the owner can share a little knowledge of Emporda wines. Palamos is famous for its incredible selection of tapas bars in the old quarter. We provide a map and a list of recommendations. Try Carmen’s delicious goat’s cheese stuffed aubergine at Can Nicanor.

🚲Cycling For Food And Wine Lovers🍷 - Day 5

You set off from Torroella passing the rice fields of Arros de Moli de Pals before stopping to explore the perfectly preserved hilltop medieval town of Pals. The old quarter known as El Pedro within the medieval walls contains many historic buildings. There is a gothic church in the center surrounded by beautiful cobbled streets leading to the old castle. The views from the ancient wall to the sea are spectacular. As you cycle down to Palafrugell why not call in at the Museum de Confitura. A quirky little shop with over 100 varieties of jams and chutneys run by Georgina Regas. Just out of Torrent there is a vineyard worthy of a visit called Mas Oller which produces some excellent wines highly recommended in the Penin wine guide. Next cycle over to Palafrugell and stop at Casa Serra, run by 4th generation Enric Serra .

Admire the kitsch window display of cakes and pop downstairs to the old kitchens now a wine cellar with over 1,000 wines to choose from. The specialty is the selection of sweet wines which complement the amazing cakes and homemade ice cream. There is an option to book a wine and produce tasting here. We recommend a menu de dia at Les Palmeres, great food, and fantastic value. The next stop is the lively town of Palamos where you will spend the next two nights staying in the Hotel Trias, a stunning location overlooking the port and the beach. This evening we have booked you the restaurant in the hotel. Level Easy/ Moderate Distance: 37kms😃

🚲Cycling For Food And Wine Lovers🍷 - Day 3

This route takes you through the many pretty medieval villages with options to visit local producers on the way. We recommend you stop in Ullastret to visit the ancient Iberian settlement dating back to the 6th century BC.

After Ullstret you cycle via Peratallada and on to a highly respected artisan olive oil producer Can Solivera. Hans and Daida have painstakingly restored this estate and house which dates back to the 12th century. After a short tour and history of Can Solivera you have an opportunity to taste the different olive oils produced which are first class, even El Cellar de Can Roca was voted in the top 3 restaurants in the world to use these oils!

There is a shop on the premises and you can make some purchases after your tour. Please let your guide know if you would like to book a tour. This tour is only available from 10am to 2pm on Monday and Saturday. Your route back to Torroella takes you via Palau Sator and Fontclara (meaning clear water) where you can stop at the ancient font for a drink. The cider makers at Mooma, also on your way back, are well worth a visit. Explore Torroella this evening and enjoy dinner at one of our recommended restaurants. Level: Easy Distance: 28kms 😃

🚲Cycling For Food And Wine Lovers🍷 - Day 3

You leave Figueres behind and travel south through Alt Emporda to Baix Emporda past the river Fluvia and the Ter. Just past Sant Pere Percador you can stop off at Mas Guso. Here you can taste their wines or sample some of the fine local produce. Further down the road just past the village of St Marti you can visit the Greek/ Roman ruins of Empuries. One of the most important archaeological sites in Catalonia.

We recommend you take some time in L’Escala and maybe have tapas for lunch on the seafront at Bar Riba then visit the shop Anxovies Soles to purchase a jar of the famous locally produced anchovies. The Soles family has been preserving this little fish since 1889. Your accommodation for the next two nights in Toroella de Montgri dates back to the 14th century. Palau Lo Mirador is a beautifully restored palace, now a boutique hotel with an abundance of charm including an internal gothic courtyard and an excellent restaurant where you will dine tonight. Level: Easy Distance: 42kms

🚲Cycling For Food And Wine Lovers 🍷- Day 2

This is a circular route taking in several vineyards and olive groves on the way. You leave Figueres and follow the route to Peralada, a beautiful medieval town in the heart of the wine area. Make time to visit the castle and convent Carmen before visiting Castillo Perelada’s degustation centre. 17 of their wines scored over 90 in the Penin guide 2017. Last year Cava became the number one exported sparkling wine in the world surpassing Champagne for the first time ever. We highly recommend the excellent value Castillo Perelada Cava. Surrounded by vineyards the road goes to Mollet de Peralada past olive groves towards Masarac where you can enjoy a wine tasting at La Vinyeta.

Next there is a gentle climb to Serra d’Altrera where you can enjoy magnificent views over the plain and the Albera mountains 🏔 before heading back to Peralada via Vilarnadal and Cabanes. We will provide a list of the vineyards and olive groves that you might want to visit on this tour. We suggest you make time to visit the Dali museum later this afternoon. Distance: 32 kms. Dali gave his wife Gala this medieval castle as a gift, who accepted it on the condition that Dali would visit her only after receiving a “written invitation”. An amazing place to visit if you’re interested in art!
