A bill to ban the live export of animals by sea has passed its final hurdle in Aotearoa – the horrific trade will cease as of April next year 🙌
Recognising that extended time at sea heightens animals’ risk of heat stress and other issues, Minister for Agriculture, Damien O’Connor stated that the ban “reinforces and builds on New Zealand's reputation".
We’d like to congratulate decision-makers, and of course the dedicated people who continued to speak up, on this historic step towards a world that is kinder to all animals.
While caring people in Australia eagerly await an announcement from the government about when a phase out of the brutal live sheep trade will be in place, our neighbours have already taken action to stop animals suffering at sea.
Thank you to all who continue to urge our government to take action. Our work alongside you will continue until this becomes reality in Australia, as well 💪
