Christmas customs in León

This wooden Christmas tree has a long history and was introduced into Christian traditions from pre-Christian customs.

Its meaning was initially the worship of nature and the cycle of life. With its candles, it brought light into the dark season and the return to longer days was celebrated at the solstice. 🌙✨☀️

In Christianity, its symbolism was then applied to the child Jesus, who brought light into the darkness with his birth; the arms of the tree were reinterpreted as a cross, reminding us of the ongoing cycle of life (through Jesus' birth) and death (on the cross).
