The new year is already 2 weeks old and after the holidays we have the everyday life again. But in 2019 there are some changes in Mallorca. We will introduce you to some of them now:
While the speed limit on some highways was still at 100 km / h recently, the speed signs have been changed in recent days: now the maximum speed on these roads is 90km / h. Like this the accident rate should be lowered.
If you want to send a letter from the island, you have to pay 1,40 Euro for a standard letter abroad within the EU and 0,60 Euro if you want to send it in Spain.
For telephone calls from mobile phones or landlines, a price limit of 0.19 euros / minute and 0.06 euros / SMS was set.
Also, the gas is about 4.6% cheaper.
If 2018 children up to the age of 14 years could travel for free in the city buses in Palma, the age now increases to 16 years. In the red-yellow intercity buses children up to 12 years can travel for free.
Parking in the hospital of Son Espases is now free. However, this caused until now partly chaotic traffic jams on the access roads.
As of this year, the leases have a minimum term of 5 years and no more 3 years, and an automatic renewal will no longer be extended by 1 year, but by 3 years.
The rules of behavior at the Playa de Palma should be even more strict and be controlled even more sharply. Likewise, a harder action is planned against the plastic waste: among other things, the disposable plastic bags are to be completely abolished.
But a thing what does not change: Mallorca stays the most beautiful island for us :)
Anyone who wants to send out of mail from the island must now pay EUR 1,40 for a standard letter abroad within the EU and 0,60 euro in domestic.
For phone calls from the phone or landline, a limit of 0,19 Euro / minute and 0,06 Euro / SMS has been set.
The gas will also be cheaper by about 4,6
If 2018 children were free to go to the buses in palma until 14 years, age now increases to 16 years. In The Red-Yellow an children can ride for free up to 12 years.
Parking at son's hospital is now free of charge. This has, however, been partly due to chaotic congestion on access roads.
The lease contracts have a minimum duration of 5 YEARS AND NO MORE THAN 3 years and an automatic extension will not be extended only by 1 year, but by 3 years.
The Etiquette at playa de palma are to be more stringent and even more stringent. A more difficult approach is planned against the plastic: among other things, the disposable plastic bags are to be completely abolished
What stays the same: Mallorca stays for us the most beautiful island in the world 😊

Today we would like to introduce you to a restaurant in Montuiri, the Son Bascos. Originally a finca with an attached quail farm, the restaurant has grown in recent years and is a real insider tip. In addition to delicious quail and quail eggs, there is also other grilled meats and, if desired, it is served with salad and / or fried potatoes. Also the bread typical of Mallorca with Aioli tastes wonderful and if you still have an appetite after the main course, you can choose between different home-made desserts. The ambience is rather rustic and the size of the restaurant makes the Son Bascos not the cosiest restaurants, but it's definitely worth a visit. Opening hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 20:00 - 23:30 and on weekends additionally from 13:00 - 15:30. Tuesday is closed.
At the weekend a reservation is recommended (0034/971 64 60 70). To find the Son Bascos, you drive on the first visit the best with the Navi

In the cooler weather you ask yourself from time to time what you can do so and maybe you come to the idea to play a round of bowling. And then the question is: Are there bowling alleys in Mallorca? The answer: yes, they exist. To be precise, there is currently only one place on the island where you can play bowling well. MallorcaBowling (Cami dels Rice 211, 07011 Poligono de Can Valero, Palma). Here you can swing from Monday to Friday from 17:00 clock, on weekends and public holidays from 11:00 clock the ball. From 6,00 Euro per person (plus 1,00 Euro per person for borrowing the shoes) you can prove your skills. If you did not book in advance and have to wait a little while for a free bowling alley, you can pass the time with a game of billiards, table football, air hockey and so on. For the younger ones there is an indoor children's playground and for all age groups the karaoke bar. And also the small hunger and the big thirst can be satisfied at the bar. So why not push a round a "quiet" ball?

03/12/2018

Even if the weather on the island is not yet Christmassy, the Christmas season has also begun here and with it the first Christmas markets have opened. The largest market is located in Palma's city centre (Placa Mayor, Las Ramblas, Via Roma, Placa d 'Espanya, Placa Porta Pintada) and is open daily from 10:00 - 21:00. The Christmas market in Santa Ponsa is open until the 16.12.2018 from 17:00 to 22:30 during the week and on public holidays, as well as on weekends from 10:00. The Christmas market in the Pueblo Espanol is open from 5.12 to 9.12. from 12:00-22:00 and costs 5.00 euros (including a hot wine, children until 12 years are free). In smaller communities on the island, such as Cas Concos and Cala Figuera, there are small local Christmas markets on weekends.

Today we would like to introduce you to an activity that every one of you has already made: cycling. Mallorca offers its beautiful nature and mostly all the time wonderful weather, the best basics to enjoy the ride. For almost all age groups and whether very sporty or rather champions, there is the appropriate route. You can explore the island with the road bike, mountain bike or very comfortable with the trekking or with the ebike. Who thinks that the ebike is just something for the older and / or consider generation, is wrong. More and more people discover the advantages of a bike with electric engine. If you really want to have fun on your trip, you should pay attention to a good bike rental. In Mallorca, there is a rental in almost every bigger place, but you should pay attention not only to the smallest price but to quality and service. A helmet should be included in the rental price, the bikes should be adjusted individually to you and friendly declared routes tips should not be a problem. Some shops also offer guided excursions. The best way is to inform you on the internet so that you can get the bike and service you want. We can recommend you from our own experience micobike. Curious:
One of the reasons why many people want to have their holiday in Mallorca or why they emigrate to Mallorca is the beautiful weather. You get the feeling that the sun is shining all the time and the rainy days are limited-but that's true?
In the island's northwestern mountains, fall about 1250 litres rain per square metre. Otherwise, this amount is only reached in Central Europe in the south of Switzerland (Ticino). Otherwise, rainfall totals in Central Europe range from 450mm to 1000mm.
It rains most in the Tramuntana Mountains in late autumn and early winter, but in Central Europe, invariably in high summer. Then when it's beautifully warm on the island and dry except for individual small thunderstorms, it's mild and humid in central Europe. That is why we have the impression that it rains less in Mallorca. But what is not true from the point of rain.

Kurios:

Today we would like to give you an excursion tip that not many visitors have on their to-do list: the Military Museum in Palma: the Castillo de San Carlos is located on the Carretera Dic de l'Oest, opposite the shopping center Port Pi. Open Tuesday - Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00, admission is free and it is not only worth seeing for people who like gun or history. In addition to the development of weapons from different cultures, you can also learn something about the exhausting time of the wars.
On a small hill is a small cafe from which you have a wonderful view over the sea and the port of Palma. From the roof of the castle you can see in the mountains and from here you have also a fantastic view over Palma.

The summer is over and thus also the many ferias and fiestas of the villages. However, the time is now for numerous autumn fiestas and thus also the time for so-called Correfocs (Fire runs) and Dimonis (Devils). Many people believe that this custom has a long tradition, but this starts only 1988. The role model was a CORREFOC show of the Iguana Theater, whichn was inspired by the fire run from Catalonia and so they invent its own devil's figures and experiment with pyrotechnics. The result was an elaborate fire show for a nightclub in Port Christo. After that, the first Devil's Club was founded in San Joan and there are now 26 different devil's clubs in Mallorca with 20-50 members each. Each member has his own hand-crafted devil mask and the whole year they prepare for the Correfocs. Along with the typical rhythms of the drums (Batucada), the fire runs are a unique spectacle that you cannot miss.
You can watch it from a safe distance or when you are brave, dance with the Devils. You should look for older clothes, cover your hair with a hood or cap and don't be afraid of sparks or loud noises.
The highlight of the dimonies season is the Sant Antoni Fest in January.

SUP- 3 Letters, which have been heard for several years especially during the summer months in Mallorca. But what does that mean? SUP stands as a shortcut for Stand Up Paddle and for this sport you stand on an inflatable or solid board and you move it with a paddle. Many might think that this kind of movement on the water is boring, but that is wrong. The SUP is a gentle whole body workout and there are worldwide competitions on lakes, as well as rivers or the sea.
By the silent movement on the water you can enjoy the nature and give your soul a break. Anyone who SUPs on the coast of Mallorca and has good luck, can also see a dolphin, early risers are rewarded with the most beautiful sunrises and for nightowls the sunset on the SUP is a special experience. SUP is an activity for everyone who is a safe swimmer. Even if you can reach a relatively safe level by the size of the board depending on height, there can be a fall into the water. In the hot months, this is a welcome change.
In Mallorca there are several SUP-stores and some offer courses. From very positive experiences we would like to recommend the Sup-Center in Porto Colom

Today we want to give you a very special and unique excursion tip: the ostrich farm Artestruz near Campos. Anyone who now thinks that this is a zoo was wrong. Artestruz is a farm that has been run and lived for many years by a family full of heart and passion. And you notice that from the first second you enter the grounds of the farm. The animals are lovingly treated with respect and their nature. In one-hour guided tours, which do not require a reservation, you will learn everything there is to know about these unique wonderful animals. And since you are sure, many facts will surprise you, make you laugh and you will never forget them again. For 5 euros you can buy a large bowl of food and feed it to the ostriches, which, incidentally, all have a name. With a wooden spoon, glove or who is quite courageous, the food can also be given with his bare hand. And those who weigh less than 50kg and are adventurous can ride the ostrich called Jambo. For this a reservation is necessary. So much excitement makes you hungry and you can buy ostrich eggs, from which a delicious and especially great omelette can be prepaed. In the small farm shop you will also find many other handmade ostrich products. If you are looking for a special gift, this is the place for you. The stay on this farm is eventful, worth knowing, funny and unforgettable and worth the entrance fee of 12 euros for adults and 7 euros for children (3-12 years) in any case. Photography is expressly desired. On Sunday the farm will be closed.

Today we want to introduce you to the restaurant Don Caracol in Palma. There are a total of 4 branches and depending on branch, you can taste typical majorcan specialities at a fair price between 1:00 PM and 1:00 AM (Friday and Saturday until 2:00 AM). It's a, restaurant in which the locals like to eat. This is why you should reserve a table on the weekend, or you can taste the first drink at the bar and enjoy the atmosphere during you wait for a free table.
The restaurant has its name from one of its famous dishes: the snails (Caracoles) with aioli. If this is too adventurous, you can eat fresh meat or vegetables from the grill.
For dessert, the typical mallorquin almond cake is highly recommended.

Yesterday, it was the first time since the hot summer that the temperatur cooled down a little bit. The reason is the special weather of the "Gota fria" (cold drops) which occurs on the Spanish Mediterranean Coast.
When the water temperature is warmed up to 30 degrees by solar radiation, and at the same time there is cold air in higher layers - the result are huge thunderstorms, which get still extra energy through the levante wind. The hot air masses rise up to 10 km, cool down there quickly, and so dark large clouds arise.
The "Gota fria" occurs mostly, due to the formation, in September and October.

Although there is still sunny weather in Mallorca and the beaches, including the Es Trenc, are very well visited, since 1.09.2018 there are no more shuttle buses between Sa Rapita and Ses Covetes.
So if you want to spend time on the beautiful beach, you should be able to get there early enough to get another parking lot or bring a lot of patience to hope for a free place.

Most tourists in Mallorca rent a car to be independent of public transport and to explore areas on their own. But no matter where you want to go, at some point, the moment of parking comes. And that you don't find a ticket or even no car, we'd like to give you some tips.
If you want to go to Palma we recommend to park in one of the car parks. This cost money, but it saves time and nerves and escapes the dangers of a ticket.
In many larger places there is either centrally located parking or you can find a public free parking at the entrance.
In general, for all villages, blue marked parking spaces are to be paid. In the evening or weekend, there is also a free parking available here, but you should inform yourself reading the information from the machine.
If you cross the timing in the blue-marked parking spaces, you can find a parking ticket when you return to the car. If your grounding has not been exceeded for more than an hour, you can turn away the penalty paying a lower fee recorded on the ticket directly on the vending machine using the reference number.
If you find yellow marked areas, you'd better park your car somewhere else. Here parking is allowed at certain times, but these dependenting on many different components.
Free parking is possible on the white parking spaces.
In smaller places you may notice that every month all cars are only parked on the left or just on the right side of the road. Even if it seems to be nice to have a lot of parking on the other side of the street, we advise you, not to use them. There can be a high fine here. Or in the worst case, the car is towed and when you come back, you find a triangle with the license plate of the car and a phone number under which you get the car back against a penalty after call.
The assumption that parking tickets are not followed by car hire and not reach the respective tenant is a fallacy. So if you're gonna get a ticket, then it's advisable to pay it.

Today we want to explain to you what the Embat is.
That's what the majorcans call the breeze that occurs in the hotter weeks of the year. At this time, the country warms up more than the sea and thus the air above the country. This heated air rises up and sucks the cooler sea air. In the Island, the breezes of the different coastal meet each other. The Embat starts in the morning at 9:00 am, reaches the inland by 14:00 p.m. and ends until 19:00. On the coast, the Embat can reach a wind speed of up to 30 km / h.
