The local guide not only has nearly 40 years experience of birding in the UK and Europe but he also has a vast knowledge of the orchids, dragonflies, moths and butterflies of the area. Either aimed at people with a general interest

in wildlife or tours for experienced birders wanting to track down that elusive target species. The aim is to show nature at its best with minimum impact on the local environment.

Yesterday I spent the Morning at Charca de Suárez and whilst birding with friends Juan and Beatriz we saw 4 different Mediterranean Chameleons. All were different sizes and colours.

Popped down the Fields this morning seeing the Adult and Immature Common Cranes that have spent most of the winter on the patch along with several Little Bustards and a Black-winged Kite.

The main reason for going to the spot where I got the Osprey photo's was to see a female Common Eider which had been around for a few days and she did not disappoint and put on a good show.

Whilst birding with Friend Ricky Owen on Friday afternoon we were lucky enough to get some nice close up views of an Osprey which had just made a successful strike in the bay in front of us.

Last Thursday I met up with Friends Kiersten and Richard who took me to an amazing part of the Sierra Nevada that was new to me.
The views alone made it worth a visit but we also had a brilliant hour watching a couple of Adult looking Bearded Vultures dropping bones on a ridge above us.
We also saw Spanish Ibex, a single Painted Lady and some flowering Snow Gentians all at above 2000m in November.

My view from Mirador desembocadura del guadalhorce first thing this morning where I spent a couple of hours picking up Great and Arctic Skua, a single Cory's / Scopoli’s Shearwater, plenty of Northern Gannets, Sandwich Tern and masses of Gulls, most LBBG, YLG and a single Med.

I was down on the fields near Huétor Tajar, Granada Province today and for the second half of November I was pleased to see 5 species of Butterfly including a smart male Desert Orange-tip and 3x Clouded Yellows.

A bit distant for photo's and a crap back ground but it was still amazing watching this adult Spanish / Iberian Imperial Eagle through the scope on the far edge of my patch.

During the day we also had a late Red-rumped Swallow, Short-toed Eagle and a returning male Tufted Duck.

After being stuck inside for most of yesterday I popped down and checked the fields and found some of the Stone Curlews were quite close to the road, I counted 33 birds but there were certainly more there.

Last Night Friend Dave Grundy Migrated from his usual Territory down at CIMA near Tarifa and come up to visit me at the house (GR). We ran just a single actinic up on the terrace as it was forecast to be wet.
Species included Nodaria nodosalis which was new for the garden, Agrochola lunosa (Lunar Underwing) x25, Episema grueneri x5, Aporophyla nigra (Black Rustic), Trigonophora flammea (Flame Brocade) and Eucoptocnemis optabilis x14.

Hello moth people, three from a couple of days ago 09/10/2024.
Near Huétor Tajar, GR.
Hopefully the first two are Polymixis dubia and Denticucullus mabillei but the thirds I am not sure of, I am fairly confident it's a Dryobotodes Species but which one????
Any help would be much appreciated, Mick.

Whilst up at Puerto del la Ragua last week with friends Derek and Barbara Etherton we came across a flock of T**s (long-tailed, Coal, Great and Crested) containing at least 3 Firecrests which came in nice and close whilst feeding in large rose bushes.

Back on the 2th Sept, Lynn, Steve and I headed down to the Sierra de Tejeda in Granada Province. Whilst there Steve found this Caterpillar along the side of the Rio Cacín.
Can anyone put a name to it for me please.

Help from Moth Friends please, 3 from last night, 3rd Oct 2024, Huétor Tajar, GR.
Guesses are 1 Phycita diaphana ??, 2 Anarpia incertalis ?? and 3 Episema grueneri / glaucina??
