Just an hour from the coast this area has a fantastic mix of habitats, ranging from high mountain tops, reed beds, open water, woodland, scrub and agricultural plains. The local guide not only has nearly 40 years experience of birding in the UK and Europe but he also has a vast knowledge of the orchids, dragonflies, moths and butterflies of the area. Either aimed at people with a general interest

in wildlife or tours for experienced birders wanting to track down that elusive target species. The aim is to show nature at its best with minimum impact on the local environment.

A couple of Days ago I was so pleased to be shown a single spike of the very rare Ghost Orchid (Epipogium aphyllum), the lady kindly took me to the spot so that it was unnecessary for me to search the wood for hours, even if I had I don't think I would have found it.
This is an extremely vulnerable species and from what local experts have posted recently doesn't get the protection it deserves, a great shame, hope it changes.

Yesterday I was out in the campo NW of Zaragoza (before the crack of Sparrows) hoping to hear and see the elusive Dupont's Lark. At 06.30 or so I heard part of a call and then at 07:30 I managed to get brief views of two immature looking birds but they were great at avoiding the camera when they were close, so I only managed bad distant shots but still pleased.
