❗️❗️❗️Since there are many scammers these days, this post might help you avoid them.

There are a couple of things you can do to avoid rental scams on Facebook.

❗️Research the profile of the person who is offering the rental and their profile. Take a look at their friend list, the history of their profile, and their photos. Do they have other social profiles on other websites? Search to see if their photos are fake using Google Lens (images dot google dot com/) or other websites that provide reverse image search. Search for the person's name or profile online or if you are familiar with OSINT-type tools do a deeper search for their email address, website, and others.

❗️Research the property that is rented. Check to see if the photos are real or if they are stolen from other properties (using Google lens). Do they have an account on rental sites like booking dot com/Airbnb/VRBO? Is the same owner listed on the rental/booking site, is the same phone number listed? Are they listed on Google? Do they have a website?

❗️Keep all conversations in the same communication channel, preferably on Messenger or somewhere you can verify the identity and make a formal complaint. Avoid switching communication to email or other channels until you have vetted the profile and are sure the person is not a scammer.

❗️Watch out for deals that seem too good to be true and “complicated” stories. Real people who want to rent don’t have time to waste on stories and if they choose to rent through Facebook their prices might be lower than the average you would get on a rental site but not significantly cheaper (they could offer a discount by the amount that is paid as commission).

❗️Ask for video calls where you can see the property live, especially if you send a sizable amount of money to secure the booking. If they are legit they will find a way to make it happen, even though you might need to wait for a bit (especially if the property is currently rented). Even if the owner can’t do it himself they should be able to find someone who can.

❗️When you make a payment avoid any type that is not directly traceable to an identity. Always ask for identity proof before wiring any money. If you make a bank transfer make sure the name matches the renter, use things like Revolut / Wise where you have a phone number associated with the account and the bank has the account owner's identity (in case you need to make a claim). Avoid any transfers which are made through things like Western Union or where the receiver of the money's identity and location can’t be traced.

❗️The normal upfront reservation is usually somewhere between 10-50% of the rental price depending on the length of the stay. Some owners will ask for a 100% upfront fee, only pay it if you are sure they are not scammers and you verified everything and you have proof of their identity, ownership of the property, and the transfer details match).

None of the above is bulletproof but it should be enough to filter out most scammers. If you’re not convinced the property is real just rent something on a well-known website.

❣️To rent out an apartment in Tenerife, it is mandatory to obtain an authorization in the form of a VV number, which stands for holiday letting number. Verifying whether or not an apartment has a registered VV number in Tenerife is essential, as it can provide additional details about the property.

Located on the north coast of Tenerife in Los Realejos, Rambla de Castro is a protected natural area covering approximately 46 hectares, and it is undeniably one of the most breathtaking spots on the island. Personally, I ❤️ it!

This slice of paradise boasts an array of animal and plant species, many of which are unique to Tenerife, such as the Phoenix canariensis palm tree, tajinastes, and tabaibal-cardonal heathers. Furthermore, it plays a vital role in sustaining local wildlife, as the ecosystem is crucial to the survival of certain species, including the Gallot’s lizard, the West Canary Skink, and several bird species.

In Rambla de Castro, various structures catch the eye:

💚Hacienda y Casona de Castro, a former farmhouse that belonged to the Bethencourt y Castro family, built in the 16th century. It now operates as a public visitor center.

💙Chapel of San Pedro, a 16th-century Catholic church that belongs to the Hacienda de Castro, houses the image of the Apostle Saint Peter, which dates back to the 17th century.

💛Another noteworthy structure is the Fort of San Fernando, a small 18th-century fort used to defend the north coast of Tenerife from the pirate attacks that plagued it during that era.

🧡Last but not least, there are the ruins of the Elevador de Aguas de Gordejuela, constructed in 1903 to pump water to the top of the cliff, where it would primarily be distributed to banana plantations. 🥳 The Los Cristianos Carnival is back and better than ever! Starting this Saturday, March 18th, we'll be treated to over 20 different acts, and it all wraps up 10 days later on Monday, March 27th.

🥳 It's the second biggest carnival in Tenerife, right behind Santa Cruz, and with an expected 125,000 people in attendance, you know it's gonna be a good time. Plus, an extra 20,000 will be there for Carnival Day, so you don't want to miss that either! 🥳
