Today marks the start of the fifth day of the Málaga Fair, a celebration of Málaga's incorporation into the Kingdom of Castile 537 years ago. It's a Feria where locals and visitors alike celebrate, dance, drink, and eat for seven days.

The Feria is divided into two parts: on one side, there's the fair in Málaga's historic center during the day until 6:00 PM, and throughout the entire day, both morning and evening, you can enjoy the Real de la Feria located on the outskirts of the city. Public transportation is available from all neighborhoods of Málaga to reach the Real.

The Málaga Fair is known as the best fair in southern Europe. Enjoy it and have a great Feria!

It’s the people you meet along the way.

This year I was honoured to write for the about the province of Málaga, Spain for the new guide to Andalucía.

I put a note out on Instagram asking, “who has some top tips about Málaga”?

One person who responded was Victor, of

Straight after we landed, Victor greeted me with a fine wine and a quick tour around the city catching a procession which was taking place.

We met up a few times, and he was always available to help with any follow up questions.

Very kindly, he made introductions for me to other people.

He introduced me to Antonio of who was the manager of the (an incredible Hamman experience).

He also introduced me to Alfredo of .tours.andalucia who was an
incredible guide for Ronda. They then introduced me to others.

What I am clear about, is that my Málaga journey began with Victor.

When I look back at my time in Málaga I think back to the kindness and generosity of these tour guides. It was the time I spent with them, rather than anything I saw which was the highlight.

It’s always about who you’re with.

Thank you, Victor and to all who helped reveal the magic of Málaga!

Let's see what you know about the Danish Hans Christian Andersen and his relationship with Malaga.

▶️ Malaga was one of his favorite stops during the trip and in his book about Spain he went so far as to say that in no other city had he felt as happy as in Malaga.
▶️ He stayed at the old Fonda de Oriente, an old hostel that was located where today number 8 of the Alameda Principal is located.
▶️ He wrote such famous stories as the tin soldier, the ugly duckling, the snow queen and Thumbelina, among many others.

Do you know the Montes de Málaga? A hidden gem Natural Park just a few minutes from the city of Malaga. If you come here you can not miss its famous "ventas" which are restaurants where you can try the most typical cuisine of the area such as migas (breadcrumbs) with fried eggs, chorizo and orange or fried aubergines with honey. Today we recommend the Venta de Alfarnate, the oldest venta in Andalusia dating back to the 13th century, an mandatory stop on the old road between Malaga and Granada. Not to be missed!

🇪🇸

Possibly this sculptural group to the Marquis of Larios is one of the most beautiful we have in the city of Malaga, and possibly one of the most unknown. Did you know…. 👇🏻👇🏻

✔️ The set is the work of the Valencian artist Mariano Benlliure, for which he received 75,000 pesetas
✔️ In the lower part it is composed of two allegories, a work allegory (the naked man) and another charity allegory (woman raising a child)
✔️ In 1931 the work was vandalized and mutilated, losing the four bronze female nudes at the base, garlands and plaques
✔️ Also in 1931 the sculpture of Larios was vandalized by the mobs and thrown into the port of Malaga decapitated, putting the sculpture of the worker on its pedestal, a place he occupied until the end of the Spanish Civil War
✔️ For the worker's face, Mariano Benlliure used his friend as a model, the bullfighter Luis Mazzantini

🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸
