I took James to experience the Marbella food scene (a teeny, tiny drop in the ocean of it, at least!).

He was unsure whether he was going to vibe with Marbella - did I manage to convert him from Marbs skeptic to Marbella fan? Watch to find out!

We are now offering cooking classes in central Malaga!

Learn to cook like a local with our fabulous morning food experience.

Accompanied by one of our foodie experts, you’ll shop for your ingredients in a local, 3rd generation deli and learn to pick produce like a pro on the fabulous atarazanas central market, before heading for your private cooking class (via a quick aperitif!). Our cooking school is state of the art & purpose built and chef Laura has worked with some of the top names in spanish gastronomy.

As you learn hands on, you’ll be sipping away on local wine or home made sangria (the only way you’ll get us to drink it!), before sitting down at the end to enjoy the fruits of your labour!

Like all of our experiences, this one is tailor made for you and can be customised. Want to try a specific dish? No problem! Alternatively leave all the planning up to us and simply show up and enjoy.

Get in touch today to find out about private cooking classes for your next visit to Malaga.

EXCITING NEWS - read on if you’re going to be in Malaga next Friday 1 March!

This is the face of a girl who’s very excited! And I’ll tell you why. is an organisation with one main mission: to showcase Malaga’s amazing producers. From cheese to wine to olive oil and avocados - Malaga has it all and Sabor a Málaga celebrates it. (Just like me!)

Next week from Thursday 29 Feb through Sunday 3 March, the Feria de Sabor a Málaga takes place on Avenida Palma de Mallorca in Torremolinos. There will be show cooking, wine tasting, live music and of course the chance to try before you buy on the amazing food market. It’s a great day out.

And now for the really exciting part. For the first time EVER, there will be a session in English, hosted by none other than yours truly!

That’s right! On Friday 1 March we will be running a session on stage in English. I can’t give you any more info yet but please save the date and make a day of it in gorgeous Torremolinos. As soon as I have more info - you’ll be the first to know!

This is the first of many projects I have planned in collaboration with this year, so please please if you’re in the Malaga area, show your support and come say hi 👋

A recap:
Feria
📍 Avenida Palma de Mallorca, Torremolinos
📆 29 Feb - 3 March
⏰ 11am - 10pm daily

Today is national cheese lovers day!

And to celebrate we wanted to share a little about one of our favourites - ‘queso payoyo’.

The village of Villaluenga del Rosario in Cádiz is home to under 500 people and one of our absolute favourite cheeses. If you’ve not tried Payoyo, you’re in for a treat. This multi-award winning goat cheese is available in a variety of age profiles and sometimes covered in rosemary, paprika or butter. If you want to keep it all local, it pairs beautifully with a sherry and some juicy pasas!

Other info is that it’s made from the milk of the indigenous Payoya goat but it can be made mixed with sheep’s milk too. Fun fact! We think that Payoyo is the word used to refer to people from the village.

The cheese has become so popular that you can find crisps flavoured with the cheese, cheese spreads and even used in cheesecakes where it makes a beautifully rich and balanced dessert.

Hands up if you’re dying to get your chops around some queso payoyo! 🙌🙌

What’s Picasso got to do with Malaga you may ask yourself…

Pablo Picasso is the famous Spanish painter, printmaker, sculptor, ceramicist and is one of the pioneers of cubism. And… He was born in Málaga, in the center at Plaza de La Merced which was then called ‘de Riego.’ Picasso lived the first 10 years of his childhood in Málaga. Later on he moved to A Coruña which is in the Spanish province Galicia and started studying at the School of Fine Arts.

Three fun facts about Pablo Picasso:
1️⃣ His first word was ‘lapiz’ which is Spanish for the word pencil, how apt, right?
2️⃣ His full name is at least 25 words long! Do you know how he was baptized?
3️⃣ When in 1911 the Mona Lisa was stolen in The Louvre, police thought Picasso had stolen it!

There is a museum in Málaga where you can see a lot of Pablo Picasso’s works. It’s open from 10am-6pm daily.

Oh, and of course, we wouldn’t be if we didn’t get something delicious in the post - can you spot it? Tell us what this typical Malaga bite is, in the comments!

Meet Amy!

When we ask Amy about her favourite activity in Málaga, she describes the morning buzz of the market: Wandering around chatting to stall holders and other locals, buying fruit and vegetables for the week - fresh and locally sourced, followed by a cafe con leche, on a nearby terrace in the sun.

And we couldn’t agree more with her - it’s truly one of the best things about living in Malaga.

One more thing you need to know about Amy is that she has a huge appreciation (obsession?) for churros. Amy can’t wait to share her love for churros and for Malaga with you!

Curious what kind of tours we offer and how you can get your chops around some of Amy’s beloved churros? Click on the link below for more information about our fun and tasty food tours!

Happy Three King’s Day 👑

Just when you thought that the party season was over, wellll we’ve got a surprise for you…… in Spain, they’re not! There is one party (holiday) left to celebrate and that is Dia De Los Reyos Magos!

On this day Spaniards celebrate the arrival of the three wise men. Following the biblical story, the three kings saw a star that was so unique they knew somewhere a king was born. They followed the star and brought gifts of gold, incense and myrrh with them.Their long journey the star led them to baby Jesus.

In Spain the arrival of the three kings is celebrated and it’s the 3 kings (not Santa) who deliver presents. In Spain presents are delivered on 5th January - most towns and cities have a wonderful parade where the kings throw out candy for children to catch.

Gifts are then opened on the 6th, which is a big holiday when families get together to unwrap and exchange gifts and eat together.

You didn’t think we would end this story without telling you something about the food we typically eat on this day? Of course not!

One item that will be found in every household in Spain to celebrate three kinds day is a Roscon de Reyes. It’s a ring shaped cake that looks like a really big donut, decorated with jewel coloured sweets to represent the Kings’ crowns.

Apart from being delicious, there’s something else that’s special about the roscon de reyes. Hidden insidious a figurine of a king, and a bean. The person who finds with the king in their portion can call themself lucky because they will be king/queen for the day! And the person who finds the bean - not so lucky - needs to pay for the cake.

If you’re in Malaga today we highly recommend you head down to Alameda principal this evening to watch the parade and get a glimpse of the three wise men for yourself!

Let us know in the comments if you’ve ever tried roscon de reyes!

When in Malaga there are soooooo many different types of olives to try. With over 300 varieties of olives grown locally - there is truly something for everyone!

Let’s start by telling you about one of our faves - the Álora olives. This type of olive is native to the town of Álora, part of Malaga province and just a few miles from Malaga city. This olive is big and ‘meaty’. Pale green in colour, the olive is often hand cut with a knife before being cured in brine (salt water), giving it a distinctive split down the middle. It’s cured for a number of weeks until the flesh softens slightly, but it’s never over-cured and always maintains its bite and a bitter edge to the flavour. We just LOVE Álora olives.

Have you tried them? Let us know in the comments!

Dish of the day…

Banderillas!

When in Málaga, get your chops around a banderilla (or two). In Spain we eat them as an ‘aperitivo’ (aperitif) and this typical dish is made up of pickled yummy morsels such as olives, anchovies and silverskin onions.

These small but mighty bites are served as a snack on a stick and one small bite really packs a punch.

They pair perfectly with house vermouth or our classic Malaga sweet wine - ‘pajarete’.

Have you tried a banderilla?

Dish of the day!

Verduritas fritas 🫑🧄🌶️🍆

When in Málaga, you should definitely try some verduritas fritas. Beautiful, fresh fried, locally grown vegetables.

You won’t find this dish everywhere - but head to the central market and you can find the freshest produce - cooked for you on the spot

It’s special because there aren’t many places in the world where you find such a variety of fresh veggies all in season at the same time.

Have you tried the verduras fritas? Let us know in the comments

It’s world red wine day! 🍷

Today we celebrate all of our local and national winemakers and we’re here to tell you about 3 red wines we LOVE that you need to try when you’re in Málaga.

You’ve heard of Rioja wines. You may have even heard of Ribera del Duero or Toro. But many visitors to Spain will never have tried any of the amazing wines we have from D.O. Sierras de Málaga.

Here are 3 we love (swipe to see):

• Cortijo Aguilares, Tadeo Petit Verdot

• Raspa Tinto

• Cártima siglo XXI 2017 reserva

All of these wines can be sourced from our friends at .malaga

Meet Pedro!

Our very own ‘Mr Fix-it’. Pedro makes sure that the creative team get to focus on what they do well - hosting people, while he gets to work in the background.
Want to know why your tour runs so seamlessly? Pedro! From making bookings to paying bills, Pedro is the oil that keeps the Food Experience engine turning smoothly (the very best Andalucian extra virgin olive oil, of course!)

When he’s not whipping things in to shape around here, Pedro can be found scoffing his favourite local dishes in one of Malaga’s many bars and restaurants with his partner and our founder Hanni, running a marathon, or playing basketball (not with Hanni!).

If you’ve joined us on a Food Experience, show Pedro some love in the comments for being the largely-unsung food hero that he is!
