the best highlights and learn some of the history of the island from your guide. Your first stop will be the gem of the island, the Bellver Castle just a short drive from the cruise terminal. Located in the capital city of Palma, the castle now houses the Palma History Museum. Built in 1300, under the order of King James II, over the years it has hosted royalty and prisoners alike as it also once served as a prison. The castle is at 367 ft above sea level and with it's name meaning "lovely view" you will certainly agree it´s a perfect match for the castle. After taking some amazing panoramic photos from the castle, your transportation will take you to Valldemossa located about 20 minutes away. Valldemossa is a small village surrounded by lush green vegetation. The style and decor of its streets has made many artists fall in love with this charming spot. Some of the most famous personalities that once lived in Valldemossa included Ruben Dario, Frederick Chopin, author George Sand and the Archduke Ludwig Salvator among others. Walk through its streets and enjoy the bohemian ambiance. Your guide will take you back to Palma for the sightseeing portion. With the close proximity of its all its sights, your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the city.Your first visit will be the Gothic Quarter which is named for its numerous Gothic style buildings including the La Seu Cathedral. Officially named Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma it is also called Cathedral of the Light, because of the natural illumination inside. With its central dome 144 ft tall, this Roman Catholic cathedral is 36 ft taller than Notre Dame Cathedral. Entrance fee is not included but you can buy the ticket for 6 euros per person to go inside or marvel from the outside at no cost. From the cathedral, you will pass the Plaza Cort, a small square is where the municipal offices are located. This is a popular spot where locals and tourists gather to chat and enjoy coffee. Take a picture with the 100+ year old olive tree in the middle of the square. The Royal Palace of Almudaina is next. First built as an Arabian fort, it was claimed as a royal residence in the early 1400s. Housed within its walls is an exhibition of paintings and carpets. The walking tour ends at La Lonja, a stone building located in the "old" Palma. Built in 1420, it is one of the best examples of Gothic style architecture of Mallorca. The building is iconic to the area now known to be a hot spot for Mallorca nightlife. La Lonja often has art exhibitions going on inside which you would be able to view. You will get back on the transportation and visit the Jewish Quarter and renaissance walls around the city. Then you will drive along the Passeig Maritimo, a marina area where the luxury yachts and private boats are docked. From the marina, you can choose take a 10 minute scenic walk back to your ship at your leisure or have the guide take you directly back to your cruise terminal. There is several options to stop for lunch during the day and you may stop at any time. Your guide will give you suggestions and options to fit your tastes - the cost of lunch is not included.
