An interesting article in The Sunday Times today about olive oil - ‘The liquid gold that took over the world’.
We just managed to harvest La Cazalla’s olives between the recent torrential rains, and took them to our local mill 5km away in Ronda. The harvest was 30% down on last year, but thankfully still enough for us, our family and friends and of course, La Cazalla’s lucky guests!
Under the late September Tuscan sun, the leaves of 25,000 olive trees rustle gently in the breeze. Among them are clusters of gently ripening fruits, mostly green, some beginning to turn black. They are all shapes and sizes: some small and pointed, others fat and luscious. In the distance hazy blue....
