Hola Chicos!!!
Today I am off to Santa Maria de Oia to start off on a Camino Confidence Route investigation. I am going to walk from Oia to Santiago to see what kinds of wonderful finds I can discover so we can include them in an Oia to Santiago Wanderer in the Spring.
Since this is my first day, I thought I would share what my gear looks like for the 7 days I will be walking the Camino Portuguese. (This includes all the clothing I will be wearing the day of).

My Osprey 26 litre pack-I have had this for a few years now and it’s perfect for the adventures I have been going on.

What can travelers do in Santiago de Compostela when they have already seen the old town? Well, a million things. This is a city to enjoy.

Andy Max Jensen (January 1973 - July 2022) CAMINO NINJA

Shared from APOC (posted by Sylvia Nilsen in another group).

"Well folks, I have some deeply sad news to share from Spain. I am sorry to say that our dear friend Andy Max Jensen, AKA the Camino Ninja, or Ninja, has died. He was 49 years old. Andy’s body collapsed last week and his heart stopped in León, it was sudden and unexpected and he didn’t make it out alive. He loved what he did for the Camino and pilgrims around the world and he had plans for a good long life. It is the Camino’s great loss to lose a Legend so soon.

Andy (1973-2022) was the creator, founder, and full-time programmer of the Camino Ninja App. He built it from scratch after walking over 20,000 Camino kilometers tracking routes all throughout Spain, France, and Portugal.

Andy was fierce, strong, quick-witted, and unexpected. Andy was also an advocate: friend, confidante, pilgrim, and fellow wanderer. He loved deep conversation as much as a good laugh. Andy somehow “got it” and never took life too seriously.

Andy loved life—the adventure, always ready to challenge himself and the world—he was open to the deep intricacies of life’s perpetual and constantly shifting nature.

Andy was always ready to give the clothes off his back, the shoes off his feet, Camino tips and tricks, whatever people needed, if he had it he gave it freely. He was deeply giving and kind.

Andy was a computer programmer for over twenty years. Before that he worked in the music industry in Copenhagen. Andy captured memories in his photography, he had an eye for seeing the world. Andy is from Denmark originally but was a global citizen the past fifteen years, most recently spending his time tracking the Caminos in Portugal, France, and Spain.

And he lit up the world: his eyes spoke volumes and his friendly hug enveloped. Andy would walk for awhile, hear someone’s story, listen, chat, share. He could befriend folks from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Andy had friends and fellow pilgrims he connected with from all over the world—Spain, Korea, Italy, UK, US, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, Mozambique, Brazil, Mexico, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Estonia, Canada, Japan—you name it—the whole world met on the Camino and for the past decade, the Camino was his world.

Andy built an empire from the ground up. He was a force to be reckoned with, yet also kind and empathic, a great friend to us all. He liked to see people happy and was deeply satisfied to know his ideas and work as the Camino Ninja made the journey a pleasant go for pilgrims along the Way. With 100 plus Caminos under his belt, Andy met people as they were, wherever they were at, and found great joy, love, and connection in conversation and friendship.

When in the zone, Andy didn’t walk, he’d
glide. There was a musicality to the way he moved, worked, played.

Over the last year Andy had grown consistently more recognized on the Camino—nearly every time he walked or took a pit stop there were excited pilgrims asking for selfies, happy to meet the Ninja. The app made people happy and he loved that. He took the effort to respond to each email individually and was adamant the app was free to all, businesses and pilgrims, with no advertising—he just wanted to make the best app that he could offer—logical, streamlined, convenient, and functional—the app he wanted for himself the first Camino 20,000 plus kilometers back and fifteen years ago.

Andy never pushed the Camino to be a particular way—everyone had an individual journey, transformation, story, and challenge to face head on along the path.

He loved all of you and loved your stories, your moments together, your notes, suggestions, frustrations, walking extra kms or stopping early, walking through the night, eating meals together, detours, late night chats. He loved everything about the Camino experience, how it could make us all connect. So thank you for being a part of his world fellow pilgrims, it really brought him so much joy.

Please share your own stories, photos, and memories of Andy in the comments. If you’d like to add your pics with him to his Instagram, Facebook, or App please do. Please share videos, photos, memories, or comments here or via PM that you would like to be shared in his service from León, Spain, details to be announced.

Andy loved the Camino, loved all of you—made all of the hard work worth it. Thank you for being a part of his journey. He will be very much missed".

Hi all! My friend Carol Alexander-Price is offering all sorts of packages if you always wanted to try the Camino but didn’t want to go it alone. Here is some info from her….and of course you can check out her website www.caminoconfidence.com for more info. 😁
Hi everyone, it's Carol Alexander-Price here from Camino Confidence. Please let me introduce you to my Camino Wanderer created for those of you who like to take it really slow👏👏👏

Do you enjoy walking with small groups of like-minded women?

Have you reached the stage where you appreciate a bit more comfort?

Do you enjoy taking in the scenery?

Are you happy to make lots of photos stops and let people pass you by?

Or maybe you simply prefer to walk much shorter stages of around a daily average of 10kms at a much slower pace.

If so, then a Camino Wanderer is perfect for you? ❤️

Camino Wanderers are mindful, fully supported and guided walks along various stages and routes of the Camino de Santiago. ☑️

They are usually between 10 and 14 days long
They are designed for small friendly and supportive groups of women. ☑️

Your luggage will be transported so that you can relax without the strain of carrying a heavy rucksack. ☑️

Your accommodation will usually be twin rooms with private bathrooms and rural houses, whenever possible and it will be of a good standard and personally chosen and checked by us. ☑️

You will be offered Camino preparation workshops to help guide you on issues such as what to pack, what equipment to buy, amongst others. ☑️

Your daily stages are kept to a short length (around 10 km average) with regular rest stops and optional rest days. ☑️

Difficulty level – Low to Medium

In Galician, Portuguese, and Asturian tradition, the rainbow is popularly known as "arco-da-Velha" (The old woman's arch, in English), because people believed the Old Woman Goddess ("Velha") was responsible for their appearance. The Old Woman is Cailleach.
In Celtic mythology, Cailleach, also known as Cailleach Bheur, is a divine hag, a creatrix, and possibly an ancestral deity or deified ancestor. Her function would be to protect all animals in Autumn and Winter and take care of Nature, although it is believed that she was also the spirit of Winter, which did not allow nature to develop freely.

According to ancient beliefs, Cailleach is the mother of all gods and goddesses. In partnership with the goddess Brìghde, she is a seasonal deity or spirit, ruling the winter months between Samhain (1st of November) and Beltane (1st of May), while Brìghde rules the Summer months between Beltane and Samhain.

It’s been a ridiculously busy couple of weeks. The energy in Santiago is rising with the flow of pilgrims. We just had bonfire night, the Festival of San Juan, and now the city is preparing for July 25th, Saint James Day. If you need a hand in Santiago, or just a friendly face to walk into the city with, feel free to DM me.

17/06/2022

Spain will soon have its own Camino de Santiago International Information and Welcome Center, like those that receive pilgrims in Portugal and France. The center will be in the historic Convent of the Comendadoras de Santiago in central Madrid.
• A consortium of Spanish and international associations of the Camino de Santiago reached an agreement with the Comendadoras de Santiago, the female Order of the Knights of Santiago founded in the 12th century, to create an Information and Reception Center for foreign pilgrims who land at the Madrid airport to travel the traditional Camino de Santiago.
• Spain does not currently provide a comprehensive welcome for the pilgrims from more than 190 countries who arrive in Madrid each year to make the journey to Santiago. France and Portugal are more advanced, with their welcome centers at San Jean a Pied de Port and Porto, respectively.
• The new International Center is projected to start up at the end of the Holy Year 2021-2022, with about 100 international volunteers offering a traditional Jacobean welcome. Refreshed and armed with the latest information on the trail, pilgrims can begin their journey imbued with the spirit of the Camino de Santiago straight from the Capital.
It is fitting that a year as symbolic as 2022 – a post-pandemic extended Holy Year - the convent of the Comendadoras de Santiago, located on its eponymous Madrid plaza, will host the Information and Reception Center for Pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. Santiago – French Way.
The nuns of the 500-year-old Comendadoras order have dedicated a part of their 17th-century convent to the reception of pilgrims, mainly foreigners, who arrive in Madrid by air to embark on the path to the tomb of the Apostle. This way, pilgrims from all over the world will receive traditional Jacobean hospitality from the day they arrive in Spain. - information via Camino Confidence

Did you know: The Rose is the symbol for Saint Rita. She was born in Italy in 1381 and at the age of 14 was married off to a local farmer who was a cruel man but despite this, was known for her incridible kindness towards the poor. When she was on her death bed she asked for roses from her garden, it was the middle of winter but roses were found growing there. Thus when she was made a Saint, she became patron saint of Lost Causes and Abused women. Her feast day is tomorrow, May 22nd. Find out more about Santa Rita on my Santiago Stories Walk.
