. Located in Los Josefos, one of the many tiny hamlets of Cariatiz, the pace of life is rural, although the bustle of Mojacar and Almeria are just a drive away. Neighbours still bake bread in traditional domed bread ovens, and farm almonds and olives like generations before them. Goatherds roam the hills, and local people keep chickens and ducks for their eggs. Los Josefos is a short walk from the white-painted village square of Los Alias. There you will find a small geological museum (open by advance request), local church, local doctors surgery (open Wednesday mornings, usually) and a tiny village school. The picturesque square also serves as school playground, meeting place and hosts the villages' three day fiesta - San Ramon - at the end of August, and San Gonzalo in May. Fresh, clean air often carries the scents of orange and lemon blossom, and on warm evenings the scents of jasmine and 'dama de noche'. Often the only sounds that can be heard are those of the bird song and goats bells. Not far away is the local shop, renowned for excellent quality meat, fresh eggs and most household, food and drink basics, as well as local hostelries. The closest main town is Sorbas, famed for its pottery, 'museum, caves and hanging houses. The area boasts entertainment to suit every taste, from active walking, caving, and and cycling holidays to touring holidays, art, great food, mountains, beaches and the largest desert in Europe, even vineyards.
