Happy World Landrover Day!

Every year on the 30th of April, the Land Rover is honoured. On April 30th, 1948, Land Rover revealed their Series 1 at the Amsterdam Motor Show.

76 years of awesomeness! We love ours, especially our 1950 Series 1. She's a beauty, isn't she!

🎆What a year this has been! It has been challenging, but we are going into 2024 with positivity and hope for a better and healthier New Year. We wish you all good health, happiness, and prosperity for the coming year.

🍇With every chime of the clock at midnight, in Spain, we eat one grape to bring us good luck in the new year. Each of these twelve grapes is said to represent each month of the year. It's not as easy as it sounds. It's hilarious and can be a bit chaotic, so please, if you're taking part in this tradition, be careful not to choke!🍇

🌰🌰Bona Castanyada ( Good Chestnut)

Feliç dia de Tot Sants ( Happy All Saints Day)

La Castanyada is a popular, traditional Chestnut festival here in Cataluña. The Castanyada and All Saints Day indicates that the Summer is over and that colder weather is on the way. It's celebrated with family and friends.

We're not sure of the origin of this festival but a little research suggests that years ago the bell towers rang the bells to remember the deceased on the morning of All Saints Day which is the 1st of November. It was a completely manual and hard job so the bell ringer would eat some chestnuts before and after ringing the bells.

Another explanation is that a few centuries ago the inhabitants of the villages would gather around a bonfire to remember their deceased loved ones and there they ate seasonal foods such as chestnuts, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, candied fruit and and sweets called Panellets.

Whatever the reason for this festival we think it's beautiful. Today we will light a candle🕯for those we have lost.

⛈️🌩Well, the temperature is most definitely cooling down now. We've gone from 30s to mid 20s now. It's looking like we're due a storm. Philip loves a good storm. I, Savi, tend to hide under the duvet when the thunder and lightening starts🙈

Hola! Hope you’re all keeping well. We’ve been a bit quiet on our FB page recently but please rest assured we’re well and we’re still in operation. Many of you have contacted us to check in and ask if we’re still operating. Yes, we are! Thank you all so much for your concern. We appreciate it.

Since the Pandemic there has been some changes. The year 2020 was…no words needed on that. We had many changes due to Covid here in Spain still until mid 2021 so we made the decision to not operate. 2021 also brought us immense heartache as we lost close family members and friends, which was one of the reasons that we took some time off as we needed to focus on what is most important, family.

I, Savi got to finally, after a few years, visit my mum and sister in the US. It was amazing and incredibly emotional to see my mum and my sister and spend some much needed time together. We then spent time catching up with Philips family, my grandma, and everyone that we didn’t have the time for because we were always so busy. The Lockdown and restrictions made it all even worse. It seems like a really bad nightmare now!

Anyway, THIS YEAR 2023, we are operating in September, October and November. Due to the extreme Summer we had here last year, where most of the mountains were shut off due to high fire risks, the cooler months are much better. Even the pool temperature got to 34 degrees at 3am!

So there you have the super condensed story of us for the past two years. We look forward to welcoming you all back for one amazing Adventure!

Tonight in Spain we celebrate Three Kings, Tres Reyes Magos, the three wise men from the East who followed the star, well you know the story.

There will be parades through the towns and villages, sweets being thrown into the crowds of locals ( our favourite bit!). And just like kids waiting up for Santa, the kids here in Spain make sure that they have an early night so they don't miss the Three Wise Men with their gifts.

Basically it's another family day just like Christmas watching the kids opening their gifts.

Now, have your heard of a cake called the Roscón de Reyes? It's a round sweet bread decorated with candied fruits on top. There’s is usually a small model of a King or Queen hidden inside the cake and whoever finds it gets to be king or queen for the day.

There’s also normally a bean in there, and whoever gets that has to buy the cake the following year! We think it's a lovely tradition! And the cake is delicious!

Hola! It has been a while since we posted anything which has led to many of you asking if we're still operating. The answer is YES! We are still operating.
