Restaurante el Avda Mar.

I have special friends on the island who are food specialists, they are raving about it and frequent it regularly.
The menu is extensive and the portions over generous but best of all its very fairly priced.
The chef outstanding, the service friendly and enthusiastic, I highly recommend a visit.
Two of our clients have already given it a rave r***e.
Let me know what you think, its absolutely brilliant if you have a party with big appetites 😋

Just in case you were thinking Aly and myself were on a diet you thought wrong. She hasn’t been too well but I am happy to report we are now back on the restaurant search.
As you are probably aware finding decent eateries at lunch time isn’t easy, hence our ‘research’
Getting staff over here is an absolute nightmare at the moment as there is absolutely no accommodation for renting. It was therefore absolutely delightful to eat at Mamma Grazia’s and find happy smiling staff.
This little gem is in Punta Mujeres directions and opening times in Google of course.
We went in for a quick and easy lunch but last night regular clients staying in our casita went for dinner and were really impressed.
They opted for the more specialised dishes and yes they had to wait for a while but as it was freshly prepared in front of them and the result was worth the wait. They are certainly visiting again before returning home.
I have taken the grandkids, they were more than happy.
Worth a try.

I´ve been very naughty - i´ve been so busy booking holidays for you all that I forgot to wish you all a Happy Christmas 🫨🫨. that sounds corny as hell I admit - and I own it lol. Although to be fair its actually the truth - we are already about 80% booked up for next year!
Fear not, as there is news on the horizon - a new property that is joining the stable.... Watch this space.....☺️

In the meantime let me take this opportunity between feeding the kids, pouring a glass (bottle) of wine and then having an early night before cleaning villas tomorrow... to say Happy New Year to everyone- thank you for following this page, thank you for all your wonderful comments, and thank you for supporting a small family business that always promises to keep the personal touch and make your holidays that little bit more special.

Here´s to a magical 2024 for everyone 🥂

The chiringuito (beach bar and restaurant) in Arrieta was demolished last month by order of the Haria Ayuntamiento. Apparently this popular meeting place which opened in 1998 only had a two year lease and the permission has not been renewed for 23 years!
I know many of our clients will sadly miss this little treasure. So many of us enjoying perhaps a coffee gin or tapas while watching the kids safely having fun on the beach. It actually was awarded a blue flag status a few years ago but sadly due to neglect of the facilities it was withdrawn.
I personally was concerned when the decision was made to close access to the car park adjacent to the beach and turn it into a basketball court. Many older and disabled people were able to have relatively easy beach access. Who is responsible for making these crazy decisions?
Word has it that a new facilities are being built. Watch this space!
I will just have to supervise beach activity from the mojito bar 😎!!!!

After a necessary bank visit we decided to investigate the new build at the rear of the Gran Hotel.
Islote de Fermina (a concept planned by Cesar Manrique many years ago) was officially opened this year.
It is intended as a recreational area with extensive swimming pools, cafe, a sensory experience and history of the build.
On the walk back you just have to admit Arrecife beach is pretty special

Well worth a visit if you decide to walk along the coast. If you want a treat jump into the lift in the Gran, grab a coffee (or gin!) and check out the view... its special.

Dont forget to visit the quiet tranquility of Tabayesco.... The jewel in the Crown in the North of the island and location of casita Amanecer https://lanzarotevillasdirect.com/casita-amanecer/

Just follow the road direction sign as you nearthe village of Haria.
Enjoy the fabulous vistas, wild flora and fornaa, the calmness ,peace and beauty; Lanzarote at its best.........

unless you just happen to pick the wrong day.
Fortunately it doesn't happen very often thank goodness! 😆

Having experienced first hand (very recently) the vital importance of this card I thought it important to pass on this information to our LVD followers.

Obviously we advise all our clients to obtain holiday insurance to cover any unforseen mishaps but I would also advise you to obtain this card which is totally free of charge here

https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/apply-for-a-free-uk-global-health-insurance-card-ghic/

It takes a few minutes to fill in the form and your card is posted to you in about a week...easy.

No-one wants to be taken ill on holiday but in the event of a real emergency I can promise you the health care you will receive in Lanzarote is absolutely brilliant.

Unless extremely serious when obviously you should call an ambulance (112) your first course of action is to go to the clinic in Tias which is open day and night. Take with you your passport and EHIC or GHIC card.. Enter the door marked URGENCIAS. They do speak English. Try to stay as calm as possible and treat the staff with respect. I guarantee you will assisted with patience and understanding they really are on the ball.

Minor health concerns can be effectively resolved for my Nazaret clients at the health center (SALUD) in Teguise. Its situated a few hundred yards on the left hand side after the chemist FARMACIA

Again take your health card and passport.

I sincerely hope this information is never needed but its always better to 'Be prepared' and if ever you are unsure whilst on holiday with us please feel welcome to call me and I will help in any way I can.

Please rest assured that your health is taken very seriously here in Lanzarote

Another great restaurant review from Mum - who kindly goes out and tries all these fabulous places and reports back while I´m busy working 🤣🤣
Clients in our villas are always requesting good lunch time venues.
After experiencing the madness on the roads at the moment I can see why.
Us oldies don't like driving in the dark! We much prefer cosy nights in with the TV and a decent bottle of wine.
Unfortunately there are few places offering what I call interesting menus; imagine my delight when I received a message from my friend Sarah that the Finca was offering a full lunch time menu from December 16th... YEY!!
Alby Dave and Sarah have been reorganising and improving the restaurant service for the past few months and what a brilliant job they have done.
I have been fortunate experiencing both the lunch and dinner service, both are absolutely first class and in these difficult times very reasonably priced.
The lunch service will open at 12.30 and sensibly they request a call to book in advance if possible. Pop Finca de Florida into Google, your request will be instantly answered. Ask for a menu to peruse, absolutely no problem.
If its a drop in I am sure they will try to oblige.
Centrally sitated near to the Campesino Monument its a prefect location for our Nazaret guests; I'm quite happy to travel from Tabayesco.
Dinner of course is also an option and I highly recommend the pod or igloo experience.
In short La Finca is absolutely perfect, situated in an idealistic vineyard, I highly recommend you give it a try.
Its certainly in my top 3 on the island. I hope you agree.

I know many will say 'are you kidding?' but if like me you are striving to eat healthily and watching the calories GREENS is for you (editors note: its Mum who is writing this, I cant even pretend to be that conscientious 😆)
Greens used to be know as Number 10 and still owned by Mendy but the concept is totally different.
Open for breakfast from 9am it shuts at 4pm and is not open in the evenings.
The menu is extensive and very innovative I asked for Mendy to guide me and her selection was delicious.
A good lunch time venue is difficult to find in Costa particularly if you don't fancy the run of the mill Spanish dishes.
I highly recommend it; the vegetarian and vegan dishes are particularly pleasing so please give it a try.

Often you forget how lucky you are to live in a special place. This morning I visited Nazaret to welcome new clients and for some reason decided to turn left at the roundabout instead of straight on and called into Teguise.
It was just after 10 o'clock and the shops were just opening; tables being organised and wow the fragrance of fresh brewing coffee.
Yes the market is great if you like that sort of thing but for me the peace and relaxed atmosphere during the week is perfection.
There are fabulous clothes, jewelry and gift shops at really reasonable prices... peep into the small doors and investigate as many have inner rooms as my photos show.
Unfortunately I havent got time for lunch but the options here are excellent just look for the umbrellas and tables; great tapas and reasonable prices.
I understand mum and Aly like the one in my photo 😀

We had the first rainfall for many months recently, giving me an opportunity to test the weather proofing and drainage of our new home; so far so good. Emma and Archie were on stand bye with buckets but all was well.

The manic summer season is over and gradually things are settling down. As you probably are aware almost all Spanish are on go slow during August and everything moves even slower, but now things are getting back to normal again.

A few people have asked me about the story behind the red house in Arrieta. I took a photo of it yesterday between showers.
Many people travelling in the north of the island happen upon this house, known locally as The Doll’s House. Its real name is Casa Juanita – The Blue House, and the story is a sad one.

This curious building is situated along the coast in the Northern village of Arrieta, it stands out from the small white typical buildings with its painted red and blue bricks and a garden complete with grass. You can find this property next to the old fishing harbour and a small beach with sea pool.

The house was built by Don Juan de Leon Perdomo in 1916. He was a local from Arrieta, before he emigrated to Argentina in the early 20th century. He made his fortune there selling wheat and met and married Juana Alemán. The couple had a daughter in 1904, and they named her after her mother, although she was always known as Juanita.

Juanita contracted tuberculosis when she was a few years old, and the couple’s doctor advised moving somewhere with “good air,” ideally by the ocean. They decided to move back to Arrieta in 1915, and Juan commissioned the build of a house, modelled on Juanita’s dolls house.
Once completed, they named the house Chalet de Arrieta and moved in.
Juanita had five happy years there, before succumbing to her illness in 1921

A great review of restaurant La Esquina in Teguise from one of our recent guests......

After a fabulous relaxing few days in our private villa in Oasis de Nazaret organised for us superbly by Amanda (Lanzarote Villas Direct) we decided to have a lazy walk up to Teguise the old capitol. One of our party is a strict vegan and to be honest we set off with some trepidation, hoping not to be offered the usual green salad !

We stumbled upon Esquina on their Mexican tasting evening. The owner of the cafe, Ben, gave us the warmest welcome and accommodated us for the evening.

Bens wife, Zoe, cooked 6 delicious traditional Mexican dishes. From quesadillas to churros (and a complimentary mescal on arrival) - all were made with locally sourced ingredients! A firm favourite of ours was the jackfruit tacos.

I often feel the pressure when taking non vegans to a vegan restaurant; but we were all so impressed with the food, service, and whole experience. So this was never a concern here!

Our visit to Esquina was one to remember for all the right reasons, and we’ve returned twice since for cake, coffee, and nachos!

We would all 100% recommend a visit to Esquina, and their sister restaurant and bar over the road Cantina (for the non vegans of the group especially!)

*Vegan 6 course tasting menu every Friday, pre-booking advised

As regular readers will be aware my mum and her friend Aly are keen restaurant connoisseurs and asked me to let you know about a super little stop in Los Valleys immediately under the towering windmills.
Its a quaint and friendly place and you are assured of a warm welcome.
On a clear day the views down to Famara are stunning. You can eat inside or out
They just had tapas but they are open from 12 noon and serve dinner at night.
If you are exploring the North of the island a great stop for lunch.

We have a few weeks left this year of availability so if you have dates in mind please contact me and I will try to accommodate you - the dates are booking up quickly though so please let me know asap so as not to be disappointed.
Have a great jubilee weekend xx
