Do you know that there is a bull fighting museum in Murcia? Bull fighting is clearly a divisive subject, but the museum as such is an interesting visit for anyone interested in knowing more about Hemingway’s passion. Entrance is free and the museum can be found in the bar/restaurant located in the beautiful park behind El Corte Inglés.
Besides tennis and padel, there is a third racquet sport you can enjoy at La Torre. There are several outdoor table tennis tables around the resort. You’ll find several of them located next to the boule courts. No need to book, just grab the racquets and balls provided at Villa Chopa and have some fun.
There is coffee, and then there is Asian coffee. Despite its name this is actually a specialty from the Murcia region. When you order “un café asiático, por favor” you’ll be served the following magical mixture in your glass: coffee, condensed milk and two kinds of liquor. The ensemble is topped with cinnamon, lemon zest and decorated with some coffee beans. Very nice indeed and highly recommended.
Looking for a city break? Murcia offers something for everyone. Some highlights from last week’s evening stroll in the city centre: excellent ice-cream at Sirvent, mouthwatering empanadas at Malvón and tapas at a cozy restauranteur near the river. Oh, and we also bumped into a family of ducks out for a walk.
Ever dreamt of swimming under a water fall? Then you should go to Salto del Usero, located close to Bullas, a one hour drive from La Torre. What is this? One would think that it’s a new and modern gas station located just around the corner from La Torre (entering Balsicas). Well, it is. But it’s also a hidden gem for anyone loving Spanish gourmet food and wine. The wine section offers an impressive depth, only to be matched by the gourmet section at El Corte Inglés in Murcia. You’ll also find great variety of high end cold cuts and embutidos. It’s really amazing to get this new addition to the resort, only a couple of minutes drive from the main gate. Visit and discover!
The local food markets are a must visit whilst staying at La Torre. You’ll find an abundant choice of regional fruits and veggies directly from the farmers. Top notch quality and really good prices. Behold the latest addition to the amenities at Villa Chopa: a built-in barbecue. The barbecue is of course available to use for all guests at the villa. During the inaugural barbecue session we opted for two styles of chorizo, steak and some marinated chicken. Yummy
