Here are som photos from the Gastronomic Fair in Murcia, which ended this Monday. Highly recommend to visit if you have the opportunity next year. Plenty of exhibitors and innovative tapas to be tasted. It’s difficult to pick a favourite but the pulpo a la murciana was really nice. As opposed to the classic pulpo a la gallega, the Murcian version is cooked in the oven with wine or beer. Later this month the yearly Spanish Michelin Guide Gala will be hosted in Murcia. It’s really fun to see that the region’s gastronomy is making footprints on Spain’s culinary map.

Tip of the day. Are you looking to spruce up the interior decoration of your La Torre home? Our “secret” go to place for any interior design related stuff is the antique store El Mercado del Usado in Murcia. They offer beautiful (used) design objects and furniture at affordable prices. We recently got these fish plates (six plates + one big serving plate), which makes dining on the terrace just a little bit nicer. Enjoy the rest of this sunny day!

As of next week we will have many guests staying at Villa Chopa for the remainder of the summer/early fall. You’ll be welcomed by our newly planted yucca palm tree by the front garden. The new yucca will join its smaller sibling by the parking, which was added last summer. We wish all our guests a lovely stay!

We highly recommend the onsite Italian, Acacia. Great atmosphere and delicious pizzas. It was so tasty that we almost forgot to take a picture of the food when it arrived. In case it doesn’t show: the dessert was a fluffy and nutritious tiramisu. Lovely to dine on the terrace on a Wednesday when live music also is on the menu.

Can you be excited about Burger King? Yes, you can. At least when you find out that the world’s best chef has created a burger for them, available right now. Clearly we had to try both the chicken and beef versions by Dabiz Muñoz. He has been selected as the World’s Best Chef three consecutive years, which no one has achieved before. When not designing burgers he runs Madrid’s only Michelin 3 star restaurant DiverXO (which has another price lever than the 9.95 euro burgers at Burger King). Cheers!

The village of Lo Ferro is only a nine minutes drive from La Torre. Last night we attended the finale of the yearly and week long Flamenco Festival. For anyone curious about flamenco (or if you’re into culture in general) this is a must visit event if you’re on location during the flamenco week. Olé!

Sharing some photos from our Saturday morning visit to Cartagena. It’s such a beautiful city just to go for a stroll. Highly recommend the tostada with tomato in one of the bars at Plaza de San Francisco (where the huge old trees are). No tourist markup, only the going rate of 3 euros for the toast and the brew. If you’re looking for delicacies and gourmet food (like live lobsters), we can highly recommend Ricardo Fuentes. We also checked out the tea store on the main avenue, which offered all kind of tea flavours you could probably imagine (and then some). Have a great day!

Which is the best coffee in the Murcia region? After rigorous empirical studies we can safely share that the beans from the Murcia based coffee company Flor de Jamaica give the best tasting coffees, by far. Furthermore (even though this bit is not 100 % statistically verified): whenever a bar advertises that it uses Flor de Jamaica beans for their coffees, you can almost certainly be sure that everything else on the menu keeps a good to high quality level. Finally, nice to know: Flor de Jamaica has its own coffee bar in Murcia, just opposite the cathedral. Here you can also purchase all their range of beans in loose weight. Cheers!

You must try the chocolate and churros from Ángel Urán. This is by far the best chocolate we’ve ever tasted. Ángel is a Chocolate Master by trade and devotes himself to perfecting his chocolate recipe. He has just been invited to attend an important chocolate festival in Belgium to showcase his churros and hot chocolate. During summer you’ll find Ángel in Cabo de Palos, opposite the police station (the safest place on earth to have churros). On Sunday’s Ángel also makes porras, which is a personal favourite.

Looking for the best tapas bar in Murcia City? Look no further than Café Bar Verónicas, run by well renowned Murcian chef Samuel Ruiz. Here you’ll find tapas at the next level. We enjoyed grilled artichoke with romanesco sauce, the best chicken croquetas ever and Samuel’s ensaladilla rusa, winner of the San Miguel national ensaladilla rusa award. Can’t wait to revisit. You’ll find this gastro tapas bar located opposite the back corner of the central market.

The San Juan hoguera/bonfire will take place tonight in Alicante. All these amazing art creations will go up in flames. We recommend a visit to Alicante during San Juan.

Saturday means Market Day in Torre Pacheco, a fifteen minutes drive from La Torre. We prefer to get our olives from Pedro’s stand, located in the middle of the main “avenue”. Tip: bring your own (empty) glass containers for the purchase. This way you avoid leakages + everything is prêt-a-porter for the fridge. Bonus tip: get the garlic stuffed ones; they’re delicious.

The citrus trees are so beautiful in the area this time of the year, with all the ripe fruits hanging from the branches. At Ala 30 outside San Javier (our favourite garden centre btw) they have all kinds of citruses. We even found a Buddha’s finger. Pretty cool fruit.
