Aaaah, those weekly post updates🙃... Are really not weekly anymore, haha.

Anyway, we are doing good!😀 If you watch us closely in our stories, you saw that we have started with the renovations of the renovations of the Casa😳.

The current situation is quite a mess, but we are SO happy that the builder started and the progress every day is huge. It's a even a little overwhelming to see so much difference each time when we go there.

Ok, we have to admit that the weekly updates are not really weekly updates anymore. We're so busy that we sometimes forget about "The Gram"😉. Can happen to the best "paard van de stal"🤣.

So, you might wonder what we are doing? We often get the question how the renovations of the new casa are going. But... the weeks are filled with general work, just like what we did in Holland. Old and new clients, medtech research, finances.. Too booooring for you guys to write about in detail😅.

The plan is to find a very good builder who can do everything for the casa. We spoke to some builders, and we are going to work with one, who will start in January (you know, if everything turns out fine😄). We sent his detailed offer back with some (...>25) remarks and questions, so we are confident in reaching a final agreement soon😉.

Mink applied for the small building license at the townhall and got it immediately. I must say, we are enjoying the process so far😊.

The weekends are filled with friends, good food and walks. This picture was taken at Montes de Málaga☝.

Vélez itself is all festive and Christmass-like. There's live music and events going on for the whole month of December. Sunday we will go to another Zambomba Flamenco show!

Time for an update! We are 3 weeks in Vélez now and there is a lot to tell about!😀

Arriving in the Casita was a nice surpise as we saw the new kitchen for the first time. 4nova did a great job when we were in Holland. We hardly recognize the room! So convenient to have a small dishwasher here!😄

Acclimatizing was hardly needed as our jobs continued as normal, only remote.

The last 3 weeks: it was very nice to catch up with friends here and meet some new people. For example at the intercambio, a good mix of social drinks and practising Spanish. The last is especially needed for me (Mink😅).

Furthermore we've had visits of several builders at the new casa. The rough quotations are luckily what we expected. One is now working out a more specified one. If we can agree on a final price he would be able to start in January. He expects it will take 4-5 months work. Having finished the casa in May-June would be beyond expection. Let's see😀 because a lot, basically everything needs to be done, new: electricity, rendering, kitchen, bathroom, floor etc etc😅 we'll update you on this soon!

And of course we're enjoying the Axarquía! Going to the beach, cycling in the mountains, having lunch at a new tapas bar, winetasting. All with sunny weather, enjoying the good life!😀☀️🥂

Hi there!😀🌊🙋🏼‍♀️🙋‍♂️💛

We will be BACK in Vélez-Málaga in 2,5 weeks from now🔥!

While the workers are transforming the kitchen of La Casita Cactus🏜, we are busy preparing our next move.

Last week, we were on holidays on a sailing boat with a group of 10 friends in Greece. It was amazing, but I'm also exhausted😅.

This week will all be about catching up with our work 💻 (moderating a research symposium, reading and responding to >100 emails, etc.), our sleep😴, and family🤗.

Meanwhile, our To Do list with the things we want to do before we are driving South again, grows every single day. Do you recognize having a list that gets two new items on it for every single one that you have been crossing off? That's our current status🤪.

Our home in Apeldoorn has to be clean and ready for the next temporary tenants. Sounds like we will be having a busy weekend too😅.

But, no complaints from our side. We are more ready than ever to going back to our beloved Spain!😍 When will you be visiting us?😀

For now, we're having our summer holidays here, and we're taking it easy😊. Meeting with some new and old friends, enjoying the cafelitos, and walking the dog🐶. From time to time we visit the our new casa and do some small jobs there. Also the Casita needs some maintenance, as we will have guests for the rest of the summer!☀️

From October/November onwards, we're planning on going back to Vélez for a longer, undetermined period. We're so much looking forward to that! We both already managed to find projects for our businesses, so the future looks bright😊. The plan is to work from Spain and reform the new Casa. Let's hope that C is easy on us this time🦠😅.

Hi there!🙋‍♂️🙋🏼‍♀️

It's time for a proper introduction for everyone who doesn't know us in person! We are Mink (33) and Tonke (31), a Dutch couple, owning La Casita Cactus in Vélez-Málaga.

Some facts:

💛 We fell in love with each other over 10 years ago.
🚵‍♂️ We cycled together for almost 4000km through South America.
🌵 We renovated La Casita Cactus during the full lockdown of 2020.
🐕 Our little dog Bora will join us on our way to Spain this summer for the first time.
😛 We are both super (read: way too) stubborn. A great recipe for us doing things a little different in life😄.
👨‍💻👩🏼‍🔬 In daily life, Mink is a registered accountant and Tonke is a scientist. We both have our own company now ( & ).
✅ We will sign the purchase of our next home in Vélez this summer 😀. Can't wait to start working on this project!
🇪🇦 We absolutely love the amount of light in Spain, the nature, the people, the tapas, the language.

Last weekend, we got our first booking for this summer season!! We were so happy😀. Let the summer begin!💪🌵

Having a Holiday home that we rent out, also made us realize that each and every time we make a booking ourselves for a small accomodation, there is a person behind it, being happy and grateful that we picked them😀.

Picture: One of our first proper trips last year after the full lockdown, was going to the "Caminito Del Rey". Definitely worth visiting when you are in the area🤩.

✅ Found a house
✅ Agreed on the price
✅ Got a lawyer with power of attorney
✅ Did a valuation
✅ Mortgage got approved

➡️ Legal check is in progress
➡️ Reservation contract is about to be signed

Are we really at the very last steps in buying this new property?😀🎉 We are planning on buying the house in July. Hopefully we can be there in person💃🍀😷!

Mink is already doing some research for a mini plunge pool in the patio😁. Can't wait!

Those pretty Andalusian entrances!😍

For the ones who missed our stories; we have an update for you! We received the valuation report for our 2nd Spanish home😁.

We were pretty anxious when we opened the file, but that was not needed. The valuation is even a bit above the agreed selling price🎉, which means that we can apply for a mortgage with the bank now.

Let's hope that's not going to take another 5 weeks😉.

We agreed on the selling price for the casa, so we started a valuation✅.

Three weeks ago. Still waiting for the valuation report😁🤣...

We are so much looking forward to going back to this place😀😊🇪🇸!! As you might know, we closed the Casita for reservations now, as it is too insecure when we can welcome guests back again in a fully normal way.

Luckily we have our friends from who take very well care of our cacti🌵🙏.

We started the weekend very good!🤗 We agreed with the price from the seller🎉😃! So, what's next?

When you have an agreement on the price in Spain, you are usually going to sign a reservation contract. Upon signing, you'll also need to pay 10% of the house.

Still, there are many steps to take.

We agreed upon the price, under several conditions, being:
📊 Valuation of the house not below 90% of the agreed price.
💰 We can fix a mortgage with the Spanish bank.
✅ No debts on the house, or anything weird in the land register. Will be checked by the lawyer.

If any of these three conditions aren't met, we wouldn't continue the buying process. This means we don't have to pay anything, and get the 10% back.

Anyway, we hope this will not be the case, and everything will be fine!😀 Will keep you updated!!

2021 is going to be a better year than 2020, because it has to!🤩🔥

For now, we decided to take the booking system of the casita offline, until better travel times arrive. Let's hope for a wonderful summer season with sunny terraces, beach vibes, and Flamenco in the streets!💃🤗 Of course, you'll be the first one to know when the booking system will be open again.
