🌟 Today, we honor the historic victory of Adwa, a testament to the resilience and unity of the Ethiopian people under Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taitu. 128 years ago, their bravery and strategic leadership led to the defeat of Italian invaders at the Battle of Adwa, marking a significant triumph against colonialism.

🌍 The Battle of Adwa stands as a symbol of African unity and resistance against foreign oppression. It inspired movements worldwide, giving hope to those fighting against colonialism and injustice. Let's celebrate the legacy of Adwa and continue to strive for a world free from oppression and inequality.

HAPPY AFRICAN WOMEN'S DAY!! to our Africa hero!!
Taytu Betul (c.1851–1918), wife of Menelik was a formidable queen and empress of Ethiopia.
Her presence was crucial in the Ethiopian victory at Adwa in 1896 against Italian, the most significant victory of any African army during the climax of European colonialism.
She increasingly opposed any negotiations that would result in the loss of Ethiopian territory. When diplomacy gave way to war, she rode out at the head of her own army, at her husband’s side.
She founded Addis Ababa, which remains Ethiopia’s capital city today, and the final decades of her reign witnessed a period of modernization, which gradually opened Ethiopia up to trade and greater technical expertise. She also provided the Ethiopian Orthodox Christian community in Jerusalem with dignified housing, and financed the construction of the dome of the impressive church Debre Genet.

Mursi tribes - are found in the valley of Omo river and well-known for their repetition of inserting large clay plates behind the lower lips by their women. The custom of wearing a lip plate is linked to the female’s fertility and eligibility for marriage. When a girl reaches at the age of 15-16, she will have her lip cut by a female member of the tribe and a small wooden stick is inserted. The lip is then slowly stretched over a period of time.

Genna (Ethiopian Christmas)
______________________________
Genna or Ethiopian Christmas is one of the extremely celebrated feasts in Ethiopian Orthodox church. The annual celebration of Genna on Tahisas 29 (January 7), except on leap year which fails on the 8th, commemorates the birthday of Christ.
Especially in the town of Lalibela, the colorful celebration of Genna matches with the birthday of King Lalibela, who took the glory for the construction of 11 rock-hewn churches around 880 years ago.
While celebrating Genna at Lalibela, the clergy worship the astonishing events which occurred when Jesus was born in Bethlehem at the cliff of Beta Mariam Church. They do so by performing the hymn, half being at the top of the cliff and the remaining half at the bottom.
Traditionally young men play a game that is similar to hockey, called Genna. Nowadays Christmas in Ethiopia is also known by that name.
