On Outdoor Ethiopia's first trip of 2023, we had the opportunity to partake in the Finfinne to Dallol Familiarization Trip that was jointly organized by the Oromia Tourism Commission and the Regional State's Culture and Tourism Bureau. On this incredible journey, we had the chance to visit a whole host of interesting, strange, and breathtaking places. We paid a visit to the Gadaa Adama Park, the amazing Awash National Park, and had the pleasure of staying at the luxurious Doho Lodge. We had the opportunity to see the stunning Lake Artale and the capital of the Afar regional state, Semera, where we got to tour the Afar Culture museum, and we were lucky enough to visit the salt-encrusted Lake As'ale, the amazing and otherworldly wonders of Dallol, and the hypersaline Lake Afdera. We are immensely grateful to the Oromia Tourism Commission for making the trip a reality and giving Outdoor Ethiopia the privilege of witnessing all of these beautiful destinations. By its nature, tourism is something that spans across borders and requires collaboration between regions. We, as some of the industry's storytellers, are more than willing to collaborate to help further the development of the tourism sector in our country.

Outdoor Ethiopia completes work on first bona fide

The third edition of the Visit Oromia magazine produced by Outdoor Ethiopia for the Oromia Tourism Commission was officially inaugurated on the 10th of August, 2022 at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel. This was a monumental undertaking for our relatively small start-up and we couldn't have done it without the incredible support of many friends.

The bulk of the work was done by the team who believed in the vision of this magazine. Our amazingly talented team of creatives took a simple idea and made something beautiful out of it. To Arganné, Ashenafi, Abenezer, Kitila (Million), Meti, Firaol, Natnael, and many more who have been directly or indirectly involved in the production of this 80-page volume that we're proudly showing off today, we say thank you for the amazing work you did.

Most of all, we would like to thank the Oromia Tourism Commission for giving us this opportunity to produce something as important and beautiful as this magazine.

Here's a link to the digital version of the magazine: https://magazine.visitoromia.org

The Outdoors for the Horsemen and the Stallions

On recently cleared crop fields outside the town of Sandafa, Outdoor Ethiopia joined thousands as they attended the Sandafa Horse Festival. The festival showcased people dressed in colorful cultural outfits and horses decorated with elaborate tacks as they went about doing some of the coolest equestrian acrobatics. The skills displayed by the horsemen throughout the event was something to behold, as was the dancing and traditional cuisine participants were treated to. Horses are an important animal in the Shoan highlands and Outdoor Ethiopia plans to explore this heritage in some of our future activities.

Visit Oromia Recognizes Hiking Groups!

Outdoor Ethiopia would like to thank the Oromia Tourism Commission for its article titled " : A Story of Organic Growth" that discusses our nascent sector and gives the work us and countless other groups have been doing due recognition.

Hiking is a beautiful activity and it can be used for the betterment of our communities around the country. Thank you again to the Commission for the much needed recognition and we hope the recommendations in the article are followed through.

We invite anyone interested in hiking and domestic tourism in the country to read the article.

The Beginning Hiking, in simple terms, is the activity of walking in nature as a recreational activity. Despite the recent origins of the term, the origins of hiking are hard to pinpoint due to obvious reasons.

Outdoor Ethiopia joined social media influencers and other participants on a boat ride across Lake Dambal as invitees of Oromia Tourism Commission. The modern recreational boats were rented from Travel 251 , which ensured the delivery of these modern vessels for an exhilarating journey on water. With a view to attend to the growing need for water tourism, Outdoor Ethiopia intends to host a boat rowing tournament exercise in the near future.

Outdoor Ethiopia in

Outdoor Ethiopia was in Batu for a three day visit during this year's epiphany. Our crew drove out and observed a mesmerizing Cuuphaa (Epiphany). The worshippers sat on the shores of Lake Dambal receiving blessings of the clergy.

Following this, our team went on a boat ride flanked by the many beautiful canoes of the eager laity. The day came to an end when we camped on the island of Galila by a campfire enjoying scintillating conversations. Finally, we went on a tour of Batu town to mingle with the residents as they went about the merrymakings of the holiday.

Outdoor was able to engage with a wide network along with the Oromia Tourism Commission and other stakeholders as to how we can capture the need to promote spiritual tourism and destinations of pilgrimage. Outdoor is looking forward to the multiple opportunities Batu holds and is grateful to OTC for the opportunities we were afforded during this trip.

Over (Debre Tsiyon) Lake Dembel's Largest Island

The name Tulluu Guddoo in Afaan Oromoo literally means 'The Big Hill' - an apt name for the mountainous island that is Lake Dembel's (Ziway Lake’s) largest. Reaching a peak elevation of more than 1800 metres above sea level, the island has a nice warm climate all year round. Tulluu Guddoo is populated by the , a unique cultural, linguistic, and religious group that have inhabited the islands on Lake Dembel for centuries. Ever since the arrival of the first Ark of the Covenant (Tabot) more than a thousand years ago, the island has been an important religious site for pilgrimages. Pilgrims - the most ancient of travelers - from all over the country would bring their cultures and languages and intermix becoming today's Zay people. Travel, history, culture, and spirituality all rolled into one is the story of this gorgeous island on Lake Dembel.

Come to Ilu for the Best and Coffee Culture!

Coffee in is an experience in artisanal production and brewing of one of the most popular beverages in the world. The land of the highly regarded Ilubabor and Forest coffee varieties, this highland rainforest area is filled to the brim with tales of coffee steeped in tradition. In addition to the expertly brewed black coffee, - coffee fried in butter - is a traditional delicacy enjoyed on special occasions. To the Ilu, coffee is a love language and they speak it fluently.

Birds like Sacred Ibis, Pelican, African Darter and Marabou Stork are abundant at (Ziway Lake). They come in all shapes and sizes with some endemic to the lake while others migrate there from places as far away as Europe and Asia. At the shores of the lake and the many islands dotted across it, these birds swim, fly, dive, and takeoff in pursuit of meal and mates. With their long beaks and neck pouches full of fish, the avians are a sight to behold at the lake that is more theirs than ours.

adventure to (Gemasa Gorge).

Dinbaro lies at the very top of the Shoa highlands. Up there, the wind is magnificent, the air crisp, and the grass otherworldly. But what Dinbaro offers is a feast to the eyes in the form of vast gorges and valleys all the way down to Afar region. Dinbaro humbles and it makes a point of leaving you speechless when you first ses it.

How long is the longest boat trip you were on?
The few hours one spends aboard a simple boat in the middle of a vast body of water like Lake Dembel are therapeutic to a mind used to the bustle of city life. The water, the occasional birds swooping down to catch fish, the breeze blowing the gentlest of waves give one a sense of calm and tranquility. That is, if you can get your sea legs under you quickly.

Nature shows off in ! With its mighty rivers like , Gebba, Dhidhesa & the endless rainforest, this is where nature exhibits how dominant it can be. At Ilike on the way to Supe & at Sor close to the town of Becho, these rivers cascade and hurtle into gorges and over mountainsides, forming mighty waterfalls that roar their triumph for eternity.

But nature in Ilubabor is not just about sheer size & mightiness; it is also about calm and tranquility. Lying at a very comfortable highland elevation, most of Ilubabor is unbelievably green & at just the right conditions for people to enjoy the outdoors everyday of every year.It doesn't get hot or cold, neither is it ever too dry. Ilubabor, from Supe to Gore to Becho, Yayyo & Hurrumu, is just perfect. It is perfect for agriculture, perfect to conduct commerce in, & perfect for tourism.

But most importantly, of all places on Earth inhabited by humans, Ilubabor absolutely takes the crown as the best place to live in.
