The angel is in the details – Kids Playing Area
When you are a customer, especially while having your own business, worked in sales, or had been working with businesses, you have this "6 sense" that you see the little gaps clearly & what they can do about it.
Which you wish the owner/decision maker figure those things out, so they would serve you better & get a better income for themselves.
So here I am, sharing my suggestions, hoping that somehow they would get a glance of this & use it for the betterment of their income & our service.
Went to one of the kids playing area a Couple of weeks ago on a Friday with a friend, to give you context it is a playing area in a mall owned by the mall owners (meaning no rent),
there are many games (which few are not working but neither labeled nor told by the staff.)
& plenty of staff, nice waiting area, few kids, so everything was great and can get greater still!
You know how fast the time & money goes when the little ones' play, they keep on finishing the coins and by the 3rd time I had to buy, asked if there was any deal for buying lots or coming on weekdays.
the receptions looked at me as I just landed from another planet & said “That works for Cinemas only” (as there is also a cinema there) I asked her "why?" She shrugged.
So I made an assumption somehow they don’t believe discounts attract kids during school days,
So true, yet there are schools/Parents with kg-4th graders with less load of homework/study & even kids who are not yet going to school.
There are also Parents with too many commitments over the weekend & some who doesn’t like the crowd of weekend playing areas.
Plus, we have lots of NGO workers in Addis who get Friday afternoon off and pick their kids from school.
With this market in my mind, looked around to get sense of the business, there are more than 8 staff there on duty at that time and there are less than15 kids there on a FRIDAY after school time, while the place works until 9pm(3Local time)

to share What the Owner could do to generate more income with no additional cost
- A week day rate, targeting Thursday & Friday and the very little once who don’t go to school.
- Offer a week day packages, customer paying fixed amount & playing unlimited times, as there are few number of kids, the games are there (no refill needed).
- Offering 90 days’ package on discounted amount, parents paying once means they would be inclined to come even on any other day.
- Some schools have “half day off” every 2 weeks, use it. run a survey with in the customer and learn which dates are those & which schools then offer discounted rate for those dates specifically for those school or combine it with educational play and offer it through the school (might need few extra amount)
- Partner with Face painters for very discounted rates or any other additional fun to be available only on weekdays (even Thu & Fri only), Give them free space for an exchange of very discounted rates (creating Win Win situation).
Knowing, applying this will not only boost the weekdays sells only but over all the companies sells,
