Our Ethiopian Ambassadors – Dearest Grum and Ashu,
This little verse is a tribute to you.

Taking ten strong women to mountains called Simian
Requires patience, flexibility, and talent Olympian.

We saw cliff jumpers and ibex and the rare Gelada Monkeys.
You brought along mules that we thought were donkeys.

We learned new phrases to describe our sightseeing
Including African massages and Bush Pee-peeing.

You kept us safe with two guards carrying Kalashnikovs.
We are all so grateful that the guns never went off.

We at injera and drank coffee in a new friend’s home
The warm memory will remain wherever we roam.

We discovered rock churches of Lalibela – total eleven
Along the way, we marveled at the Stairs to Heaven.

Making dinner with Sis was a delicious endeavor.
Ending the evening at a wedding could not have been better.

Each day was filled with wonder to our surprise and delight.
How you managed with such grace was a magnificent sight.

We danced, we sang, even attempted ululation.
No one can say this wasn’t an outstanding vacation.

Grum, your knowledge and storytelling could fill a book.
We are grateful for your infectious smile and positive outlook.

Ashu, your intelligence and respect for all people you meet
Is a rare gift that you share without any conceit.

Grum and Ashu, you have hearts that are kind.
Your generosity is a gift – truly a unique find.

Travel enriches our lives and helps us make new friends.
We are all so sorry that our adventure soon ends.

We thank you for sharing your Ethiopian view
