A southern Ethiopian ethnic group known as the Gamo is situated in the Gamo Highlands. More than 40 settlements, including Chencha, Bonke, Kucha, Garbansa, Zargula, Kamba, Dorze, Birbir, Ochello, Boroda, Ganta, Gacho Baba, Eligo, Shella, Kolle, Dita, and Kogo, are home to them.
One of the biggest cities in the Southern Nations Nationalities and People Regional State, Arba Minch is located 505 kilometers from Addis Abeba. The city was founded in 1955 E.C. as the provincial capital of Gamo Gofa, and according to the current administrative border, it is currently the seat of Gamo Zone.
Approximately a million people now live in the highlands, with the Gamo constituting the majority ethnic group. The Gamo farm a range of products, such as grains, fruit trees, and the crucial staple enset (also known as "false banana"), while subsisting on tiny holdings and community grazing grounds full of sheep and cattle.
