Timket celebrations start today in Ethiopia to mark Epiphany in the orthodox church - one of the biggest celebrations of the year. The replicas of the Ark of the Covenant are brought out of the churches and paraded alongside colourful crowds. In Gondar the celebrations run overnight at Fasilidas' bath, finishing off with those brave enough leaping into the pool.

We ask for baby clothes which are distributed to new mothers for their new borns and helps incentivize them to visit the local clinic. Our guests have been amazingly generous over the years and have made a great difference to the babies in the Simien mountains.

Good Friday will be celebrated throughout Ethiopia today by those who follow the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Many will mark the day with prayer ceremonies, fasting, and bowing down to remember the pain and suffering of Jesus Christ. This prayer ritual is known as Sedget (ስግደት).
