Harar, City of Peace City of Peace
In 2004, the Ethiopian city of Harar received the city of peace and tolerance prize awarded by Unesco to the same city that today hosts the World Peace Forum: Barcelona. It was in the framework of the Universal Forum of Cultures. Harar, the holy city of Islam and a point of reference for Muslims throughout the Horn of Africa, already enjoyed the world heritage survey by the same institution

Also in Ethiopia, another city in the North was already part of this world heritage years ago: Lalibela, holy city of Christianity. And more recently, the country's Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed received the Nobel Peace Prize (2019).

Carlos Mariné, who began traveling to the country in 1998, eventually settled in Harar for a few years, where he got married and still maintains his painting studio within the walls.
Through the drawings made from life in its streets, markets and homes, and their elaboration in the studio, he will try to convey to us something of that unique spirit of the city of Harar: the charm of its proud and friendly people and the treasure of its values are those of tolerance, peace and friendship, famous in the country and now recognized internationally.
