This is the result of 6 days of fishing.
First time in Finland, on a new lake for anglers. The result is impressive!

Mid-May is an excellent time for fishing. Choosing the right spot, where there are plenty of fish, played its role. The main task—orienting oneself on the lake, finding fish concentrations, and selecting the right lures—was successfully accomplished.

📅 In June, there are still a few free days on this lake in small cabins for 2-3 people.
📅 July and August are already 90% booked.

April 18th marks the opening of the 2024 fishing season by our first fishermen.

Our task was to find a spot for fishing in mid-April, on open water, but not the sea.

📍One such place is the KymiRiver. Due to the current, the water clears of ice early. It's only 130 km from Helsinki.

Two power stations block the river, forming a closed water basin of two connecting lakes and a river, spanning 18-20 km.

Depth ranges up to 8 m in the lake part and up to 20 m in the river; in the middle part of the river, there is a trout fishing area (requires a separate license). In the upper part of the reservoir, there is a trout pond (paid fishing).

Predators include pike, perch, zander, trout, and ide.

There are cottages by the river and on the lake part. Capacity ranges from 2-3 to 15-16 people.

RUOVESI LAKE - "FISH SOUP".

This summer, I finally thoroughly studied the Panoptix Livescope system. After that, I don't understand how one can fish blindly in the summer without knowing what's happening underwater.

I was at the RUOVESI lake, a lake I had never been to before, located 75 km north of Tampere and 220 km from Helsinki. I called this lake the "fish soup" because the fish finder constantly showed schools of baitfish, predators lurking nearby, small shoals, and a constant movement of fish beneath the boat.

On the surface, it was just smooth water with nothing to hold onto. Only through the fish finder could I understand the lake's terrain, where the fish were, what they were doing, and how they reacted to or ignored lures. It turned out that even the angle at which the lure dropped on the pikeperch's head mattered.

One more spot on the map for fishermen planning a trip to Finland: the Merikoivula fishing base.

220 km from Helsinki, 60 km from Turku, Archipelago Sea.

On the base there are:

🏡 8 villas, each with 4 bedrooms.

🎣 Important information for fishermen planning to go to the Turku Archipelago in the coming days!

📅 On May 14th, our fishermen arrived at the cottage on the Archipelago island. Before handing them the boat, I had a couple of hours to check several spots.

🐟 From one spot, I managed to catch 3 pikes at once, and the fish still had roe. This indicates that the pike bite will continue for another 1-2 weeks until it goes into the deep sea. So the active pike fishing season here is from the end of April till the end of May!

🌅 The best time for fishing is in the morning, as during the day the sun is too bright and the pike is inactive.

🌥 It's ideal if it's cloudy, then you can catch the so-called "spring post-spawning feeding frenzy", legends about which are circulating among fishermen.

📍 Don't forget to move from spot to spot to find active ones. Good luck fishing! 🎣

There are great fishing cottages on secluded islands in the Turku archipelago, where a free ferry goes according to a schedule. But the ferry only stops if you call ahead and ask.

Today I ended up on one of these islands. I knew the schedule, but I didn't know about the call ahead.

As a result, I stood at the pier for several hours, watching the ferry pass by the island from afar.

But don't repeat my mistakes and call ahead! )

Active pike fishing will continue for another couple of weeks until the end of May.

🎣 SIMPLE SECRETS OF PIKE FISHING 🎣

What to do if the pike isn't biting! 💔
Let me share some tips to maximize your fishing success! 💪

1️⃣ Open Google Maps.
2️⃣ Mark the reed-filled hotspots within a 10 km radius of the place you stay.
3️⃣ Head to the first marked spot and cast your bait near the reeds, into the reeds, in front of the reeds, then change your bait. Spend ⏰15-20 minutes at each spot.
If there are no bites, move on! Repeat the process.

Remember, there will be spots where nothing happens, where the pike is just shy nibblers, and others where the action is buzzing! 🐟💥

Do you know the connection between the CHRISTMAS TREE and the PERCH?

One Swedish study showed that by submerging spruce to the bottom of a shallow bay in a suitable location, the number of perch fry in the area could be doubled. The Christmas tree at the bottom serves as an excellent spawning ground for perch and other spring-spawning fish.

In Finland, since 2016, the Association of Amateur Fishermen has been organizing an event for everyone wishing to sink their Christmas tree (plastic Christmas trees and decorations are not suitable!). Usually this event takes place in the first week of January.

How to make a spruce spawning ground DIY?
1. Take a Christmas tree, tie the trunk to a brick with holes.
2. Lower the Christmas tree with a load to the bottom in the coastal zone, where the depth is from half a meter to two meters.
You can lower the Christmas tree into the ice-hole, or flood it immediately after the ice melts.

By flooding the spruce, you will probably create a good fishing spot for yourself. Both the fish and the fisherman win.

Spruce flooding in Finland always requires the permission of the water area owner.
Spruces should not be placed in places where they can harm water movement.

When does SPRING PIKE SEASON open in Finland?

I opened the 2022 fishing season on April 28th. It could have been a week earlier, but the boat was crowded in the winter parking with other boats.

The first ice melts on the western sea coast, in the area of the Turku Archipelago, around the 20th of April, depending on the weather and the amount of snow and ice formed during the winter.

Spring fishing for pike is a special pleasure. All fish, both large and small, are concentrated near shallow shores with reeds. As soon as the water warms up to +7+10 degrees, the pike will spawn.

Before spawning, the fish is very picky and cautious. I use large baits, as a pike with a full belly of roe is unlikely to rush at the small fish, saving strength.

April and the first half of May is the best time to look for trophy pike on the sea coast!
