Some of the artists are recognized and acclaimed, others are still unknown to the greater public. Unknown Cargo takes contemporary art out of the regular art galleries. It gives the visitor the opportunity to experience art without context or reference, as a pure and raw encounter. In the summer of 2011 the gallery operated in a old cargo container in the Kalasatama district, an old and unused har
bor area in Helsinki, Finland. In year 2013 Unknown Cargo was located at Teurastamo, an old meat packing distric of Helsinki, and in Vallila at Steep service design agency's office. Summer 2014 Unknown Cargo was at Aleksanterinkatu, center of Helsinki. In the fall of 2015 the gallery was located in Stockholm, Sweden and Copenhagen, Denmark. www.unknowncargo.com
