Planning a flight between London and Helsinki? ✈️ You won’t be the first ones. In fact, exactly 70 years ago today in 1954 these guys boarded the very first flight from Helsinki to London! 👇

At first, there were three weekly flights with a travel time close to 8 hours. These days, Finnair flies between the two cities six times a day starting the coming winter season in approximately 3 hours.

Congratulations Finnair for the seven decades of bringing our cities together! 🎉

Helsinki is the city of libraries! ❤️📚 These safe havens of civilisation offer food for the soul also for architecture and history enthusiasts.

🧐 You may know, Finland takes libraries seriously, and the love for reading reflects strongly in the local culture. Finns are ranked as some of the most literate people in the world, as well as some of the most prolific users of libraries. Some 50 percent of citizens use the library at least once a month, and 20 percent use it weekly.

Have you already visited Helsinki's new summer oasis right in the city centre by the Töölönlahti Bay and Central Library Oodi? 💚🌿🌻🌾🏖

The newly renovated Töölönlahti summer park is full of floral splendour and offers both locals and visitors many opportunities for recreation and relaxation, such as a new volleyball court, sandy beach area, playground and barbecue pit, as well as plenty of new green places to hang out! ☀️🍃🏀

ℹ 16,500 plants have been planted in Töölönlahti Park, creating a beautiful floral display and a mix of greenery designed to attract many insect species, supporting the role of pollinators in maintaining biodiversity. 🐝💛

Kicking off Helsingin juhlaviikot / Helsinki Festival and offering free programme to both residents of the city and visitors alike, the Night of the Arts will be celebrated throughout Helsinki this Thursday 15 August! 🌙🎨🎭

The Night of the Arts celebrations will spread across Helsinki with hundreds of free events. The programme will include open rehearsals at various theatres, dance, circus, literary events and discussions, open doors to museums as well as a great variety of live music. 🌆🎶🫶

The main venue of the 1952 Summer Olympics stands proudly in the centre of the Eläintarha Sports Park behind the Töölönlahti Bay surrounding by other sports facilities. The 72-meter Stadium Tower stands as a symbol of both the Olympics and Finnish sports 🇫🇮 and it’s one of the main landmarks of the city!
