Matti Mattsson Workshop

Matti Mattsson is metal artist from Finland who uses recycled materials. I have worked as a metal smith for 35 years and see it as a service occupation.

Keeping my studio open for public is the foundation of my work, as I use recycled material given to me. Kids have trusted me with their old toys. Old people bring me things they haven't wanted to throw away. They are happy to see what can be made of materials they have sometimes been keeping in store for years. My work is like a circle: Material is brought to the studio, it is turned into somethin

g new and then the finished product leaves the studio. I find the whole process touching. My mind is kept active by the creative process and working with the material. I take a nap almost every day and let my subconscious do the work. After a nap I often find the answers I've been looking for to proceed. I learned recycling from my parents. When I was a child, we tore down houses and reused the building material. I remember pulling nails off the planks and straightening them with a hammer. That memory is one of the reasons I am a jewel artisan. I first worked abroad in 1973 and have found Germany the best country to work in. Recycling household waste is a part of everyday life there, and people are interested to see how recycled products can be turned into something new. There's a long tradition of recycling in Finland. It was essential for past generations, but these days using recycled material is considered art. My studio is located in Kuopio Harbour. I have enjoyed working in Kuopio and wish to stay there. Hammers are hard metal,
But when i was younger
I got possible to work as assistant
One winter in Great Kauko Moisio
Workshop after Goldsmithschool.
Kauko was looking Asistant,
But when i went to ask,he said
You do not look enaf Strong.
I went 3 times to ask.
Then Kauko said.
Ok,You do not keep out trying =Sisu
It is good in thiskind heavy Metal
Working.Si.
He made own tools and that way
I got way to make ownkind tools.

Kaapelitehdas 2016 Ornamon joulumyyjäiset Palokärkikello Materiaali koivuntuohi Myin tämän kellon vanhahkolle Rouvalle 100 €.Hän maksoi sen pankkiin 1.000 €. Soitin ja laitoin e.mail hänelle.Kun ei kuulunut vastausta,niin menin pankkiin. Pankissa sanoivat etteivät voi auttaa ,kun en ollut löytänyt vielä lähettäjän Tilinumeroa.Menin uudestaan pankkiautomaatille ja löysin hänen tilinumeron. Lähetin 900 € hänelle takaisin ja viestin ,että kello maksoi 100 €. Tulen taas 1-3.12.2017 Kaapelitehtaalle Ornamon Joulumyyjäisiin. Mukana on toinenkin tuohikello,nostin hinnan korkeammalle.
