We love spending time with our dogs every day, not just for training but also for cuddles and affection. With their new name tags, it’s now even easier for you to tell them apart. You can tell if a dog is male or female by the style of writing on the board.
All our huskies respond to their names, which makes working with them so much easier. We’re proud of our strong and loving companions.

Autumn, or as we call it here in Lapland RUSKA, has started, and that means training for our Alaskan Huskies is in full swing! The landscape is turning into a colorful spectacle, and the dogs are eager to burn off their energy.
Unfortunately, it's still a bit too warm, so we have to postpone training sometimes. But the cool mornings at 6 a.m. are perfect for getting the dogs out and ready for the season ahead!
It's essential to have well-trained dogs with strong muscles and endurance, especially as we prepare for the long winter months. A fit and resilient team is key to ensuring they can pull sleds over challenging terrain in our without injury and perform happy all season long.

In Rauhala, the magical Northern Lights are once again gracing the night skies as the long Arctic nights return. This natural wonder, also known as the Aurora Borealis, is a mesmerizing display of dancing lights in hues of green, pink, and violet. Best seen from late August through March.
The clear, dark skies of Finnish Lapland provide ideal conditions for viewing the Aurora, especially in remote areas far from city lights. Witnessing the Northern Lights is an unforgettable moment that captures the beauty and mystery of the Arctic.
Have you ever seen the Northern Lights, and where was it?

Alaskan Huskies are energetic dogs that need special care to stay healthy and happy. Chewing on cartilage bones is an important part of their routine, as it helps keep their teeth clean, strengthens their jaws, and provides mental stimulation.
However, safety is very important when giving them bones. We carefully plan how and when to give out the bones, and we always watch the dogs closely while they chew. This is to prevent any issues like choking, stealing bones from each other, or growling and snapping.
After about an hour, we collect all the bones to avoid any problems later on. We also check the kennels to make sure no bones are buried, as buried bones can rot and spread bacteria. Forgotten bones should also not become a source of conflict later on. This careful approach keeps our Alaskan Huskies safe and ensures they live in a clean, peaceful environment.

Embrace the Tradition of Wild Bilberry Harvesting in the Finnish Forests.
As the summer sun ripens the Finnish forests, they become a treasure trove of wild bilberries, a beloved gem of our natural landscape. These small, dark berries, packed with flavor, are a true gift from nature, and gathering them is more than just a pastime—it's a cherished tradition.
For many of us, venturing into the woods to collect bilberries is an essential part of the Finnish summer. It's a time to slow down, connect with nature, and fill our baskets with these delicious berries. Whether you're picking for the perfect homemade marmalade, a bilberry pie, or simply to freeze them for the colder months, the rewards are plentiful.
Preparing for winter with jars of bilberry preserves or bags of frozen berries ensures that the taste of summer lingers long after the first snow falls. When the winter winds blow and our guests gather around the fire, there's nothing like sharing homemade bilberry treats to warm the heart and soul.

Our two female puppies, Ori and Ofra, have grown so much! Running comes naturally to Alaskan Huskies, but our two are especially lively and curious. They love to romp through the woods during our daily forest walks. Since running comes so easily to them, our training focuses on teaching them to find calm. Thanks to your name suggestions, Ori and Ofra are ready for new adventures!

Our lake transforms from a summer paradise to a snow-covered winter wonderland. Hard to believe that only a few months separate these photos. This is the view from our wilderness camp "Madejärvi".
Who has already enjoyed the silence here or even seen the Northern Lights?

Pack Behavior of Alaskan Huskies
Alaskan Huskies are incredible dogs known for their social pack behavior. Living in a pack teaches them essential skills such as communication, cooperation, and social bonding.
Every day, these energetic dogs need plenty of free run time to stay happy and healthy. Their daily exercise routine is vital for their physical and mental well-being.
They are also known for being very friendly with both humans and other dogs, with a less rigid hierarchy. This makes them the most common type of sled dog.
Watch how they communicate through body language and vocalizations, creating a harmonious pack dynamic. It’s fascinating to see them work together.

Berry season is here!
Today, it's all about the incredible cloudberry, our superfood in Lapland! These golden gems are not only delicious but also packed with vitamins and antioxidants.
Did you know how laborious it is to find and harvest cloudberries? These rare treasures grow only in hard-to-reach marshlands, requiring a lot of patience and effort. But it's worth it.
Perfect for summer and winter, because cloudberries are true all-rounders. Our guests in winter will definitely enjoy it too!
And the best part: After cloudberries, delicious blueberries and lingonberries are coming soon. So, enjoy berry season!

🐾 The Importance of Dental Care for Working Dogs, Especially Huskies 🐾
Did you know that dental health is crucial for the well-being and performance of working dogs? For our hardworking Huskies, it's even more essential! Here are some tips to keep their teeth in top shape:
Soft Cartilage Bones: These are perfect for chewing and help reduce the risk of dental fractures and tartar buildup.
Regular Tartar Removal by the Vet: Professional cleaning prevents serious dental issues and ensures overall health.
Frequent Oral Check-ups: Regular inspections can catch potential problems early and keep our Husky’s smile bright!
Keep your furry friends healthy and happy with proper dental care!

There will be a change for all tours from winter 2024 on.
As the founder of Pallas Husky, Markku looks back on many years of interesting encounters, adventurous trips and unique experiences. But now, after more than 30 years, he is going into his well-deserved retirement. From now on, two qualified and experienced wilderness guides, Linda and Thomas, will take over Pallas Husky. Both have been part of the Pallas Husky team for several winters and have long-term experience with dogs and as tour guides themselves. They will continue the tours in the same style and also bring in their own new ideas.
We warmly welcome you to Rauhala.

Husky tours in the most magnificent landscapes of Finland
We have offered tours with our Alaskan Huskies in the snow-covered, beautiful landscapes of the Pallas-Ylläs National Park since 1993.
Markku Rauhala, the founder and owner of Pallas Husky, grew up in Lapland and speaks Finnish, German and English.
The team includes also Linda Szabó and Thomas Hinze who are running our dog camp and support us as assistant guides on the tours.
We are lockated in Rauhala, on the edge of the national park Pallas-Ylläs and in the middle of the ski centers of West Lapland. Pallas is 20 km north from Rauhala; Levi is 30 km to the west and Ylläs 40 km to the south. Kittilä Airport is 45 km away. Rovaniemi and the Arctic Circle are 200 km to the south.
We run our multiple day husky tours without a snow mobile guiding. Maximum group size is 8 persons. During the days there are two smaller groups with one guide each.
Our trails go through a variety of landscapes in the Pallas-Ylläs National Park, through pine-, spruce, birch forests and over open wetlands.
We drive the dogs over the fells which look like from a fairy tale with deep snow and with trees often bending over down to the ground under a heavy snow load. These landscapes have been voted as the most magnificent in the whole of Finland.
On our trails you can still feel the atmosphere of the true wilderness.
Our weekly program usually starts on Monday and lasts until Saturday morning. It includes 4 day trips with the dogs and 5 nights in a log cabin.
