Blue! Our most social dog. She is always ready to receive some scratches and kisses (sometimes a little too much).

Blue’s looks are very interesting, as she has a shepherd like fur and ears but very piercing light blue eyes. Blue is smart and a very fast learner. On the other hand she has kind of a goofy and a bit hyper active personality😅.
As a sleddog she is very solid and reliable. Easy to mix and mach with almost any dog in the team as she is not only friendly with people, but also with other dogs💙 Blue is pretty big female, she has a good appetite and work motivation, and she maintains weight really well! Those are the kind of things you want for a working sleddog.

Blue can run in any position in the team and she seems promicing as a lead dog as well. Therefore we started to teach her direction commands last autumn. Atm she might turn where we ask her to, if she has the time to focus🤣

Minus side her fur is the type that easily gathers snowballs in her paws in warm weather, so she needs a trim every now and then or booties.

Säällä kuin säällä. Nyt lauhempina keleinä on hyvä muistella vuodenvaihdetta. Kuvaa ottaessa mittarissa oli -38•C. Ilmalämpöpumppu meni pirtistä rikki ja autot eivät startanneet, m***a koiravaljakko kulki😆✌️

Back when it was -38•c in the beginning of january. All the other vehicles froze and stopped working except a snowmobile and the dog teams.

On saturday night these four big pups of Daisy (Ivy x Sailor) were born. The darker one with tan points in the first two pics is a female. All the others are males. Three out of four puppies are males, just like Jake ordered😅
Males seem to have different shades of agouti colouring.

Their father is Caswell, the weird jumpy boy from Alaska (last pictures). 🏔️

Barney says let’s hug!🖤

He is so very sweet character. He politely jumps on us and gives a looong hug!

He is also one of those dogs that have multi coloured eyes.
Barney has one eye brown, and one eye brown with a blue section. But in this case, the pigment in the blue section has faded into mostly white with a blue ring and from a distance it appears as a missing piece of the iris!
We need some time for getting better pictures of it. Barney doesn’t quite like the camera.

Let’s make a post about the rest of our new dogs (some of you saw them on our stories already).

Very nice boys they are🥰
They have been very polite to our other dogs (except a couple of our wolfdogs they don’t understand quite yet). They have been very playful as well almost from the day one. It’s nice to see that they feel comfortable and safe enough to play here.

Twiggy is quite shy, so with him we take small steps. But he has made some friends here already!

Welcome home to our three new black&white family members Blue, Truls and Barney🖤🤍

They all were instantly very outgoing and seem to be adapting quickly. Especially sweet Blue, with whom we fell in love with immediately. She seemed perfectly okay with us and everything and started playing with Barney.

Barney and Truls were growling and barking a little bit to their neighbour dogs through the fence, just in case😁 However now they are quite relaxed already.

All three are around 2 year olds.

Charlie and Riddler’s castration day 🍒✂️

The reasons we neutered 6 of our males vary:

First of all, it usually gives a less stressful life for the dogs that are not used for breeding, even though the lack of testosterone can also make shy males more insecure and shy. But, this is an issue that is also trainable, and we can make routines for them that make them feel safe in different situations.

Now they don’t have to howl through the nights and hope for their mating companion, which they are anyway not going to get, when females are in heat. So they get to rest and focus on other things instead.

Castration can also make dogs less reactive (doesn’t always mean aggressively reactive. It can mean reactive as in likely to react in any impulse, depending on the individual’s motives.)

Couple of our males were done also because they tend to stay too skinny (despite of feeding, deworming, etc), like their mother. So for them it is genetic. And therefore they were also left out from breeding. A sleddog needs to be in good condition. Now neutering changes the metabolism, and often helps dogs gather more weight.

And as they are now castrated, they can live safely with females, which makes them all happier and less stressed. Which makes the whole kennel less stressed.
Many of our males prefer living with females and therefore there is less tension in their lives, and they are also less likely to fight with one another.

Castrated males can also be placed in a dog team with females in heat. This makes our job easier, and theirs.

For our breeding males, we have room mates that are either males they get along with, or sterilized females. But for example Sailor seems happier in his own peace.

Here’s pictures of our day at , and of Charlie recovering from the procedure at home. Everything went well and dogs are again recovering nicely. Charlie met some husky friends and had to offer his favourite trick(go between legs) to ,even tho he was still drunk like a fish😂

Spring! Time for castrations/sterilations, puppy vaccination and what not. And apparently also time to x-ray some broken toes🙄🙄

Poor Coco got her toe broken, and also there seemed to be a lonely piece of bone loose as well. We are thinking of amputating the toe, to avoid dislocation and to let her move as effortlessly as possible.

Ironic part is that her mother had the same issue as well, and therefore she ran sideways in a dogteam (to avoid using that specific toe).

All neutered dogs are healing properly and are doing fine😇
