From Savonlinna with love

Our internship in Savonlinna was an unforgettable experience. We immersed ourselves in the breathtaking winter landscapes, the warm-hearted people, and the unique Finnish culture. The frozen lakes, snow-covered forests, and relaxing sauna sessions revealed just how enchanting winter can be—even with its challenges, such as short daylight hours and limited public transportation.
We were truly impressed by the vibrant spirit of the Finns and how they fully embrace the winter season, engaging in numerous outdoor activities that captivated us. We are already looking forward to returning in the summer to discover the lush, green side of this wonderful city.

Unser Praktikum in Savonlinna war eine unvergessliche Erfahrung. Wir haben die atemberaubende Winterlandschaft, die herzlichen Menschen und die einzigartige finnische Kultur in vollen Zügen genossen. Die gefrorenen Seen, schneebedeckten Wälder und entspannenden Saunabesuche haben uns gezeigt, wie zauberhaft der Winter sein kann – trotz der Herausforderungen, wie den kurzen Tageslichtstunden und den begrenzten öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln.
Wir waren beeindruckt von der aktiven Lebensfreude der Finnen, die den Winter in vollen Zügen genießen, und haben selbst zahlreiche Outdoor-Aktivitäten entdeckt, die uns nachhaltig begeistert haben. Wir freuen uns schon darauf, im Sommer zurückzukehren und eine ganz neue, grüne Seite dieser wunderbaren Stadt zu erleben.

Yesterday, I visited Luonnos Farm, and it was really beautiful. The landscape was covered in snow, and everything was so peaceful. The best part was that I got to ride a horse in the snow it was an amazing experience.
The horses were calm and relaxed, and it was just so much fun. The farm had many animals, including dogs, cats, sheep, and chickens. It was a large farm with a lot of horses. Some of the animals were in the stable, while others roamed outside. It was interesting to see how they were cared for and to get a glimpse of life on the farm.
The atmosphere was so pleasant everything was quiet, and it really felt like being in the heart of nature. It was a truly wonderful day!

Gestern war ich auf der Luonnos Farm, und es war wirklich schön. Die Landschaft war verschneit, und es war total ruhig dort. Am besten hat mir gefallen, dass ich im Schnee reiten konnte, das war eine tolle Erfahrung.
Die Pferde waren ruhig und entspannt, und es hat einfach Spaß gemacht. Auf der Farm gab es auch viele Tiere, zum Beispiel , Hunde, Katzen, Schafe und Hühner. Die Farm war sehr groß und sie hatten sehr viele Pferde. Einige der Tiere waren im Stall, andere liefen draußen herum. Es war interessant zu sehen, wie sie versorgt werden und wie das Leben auf der Farm so abläuft. Außerdem war die Atmosphäre dort total angenehm alles war ruhig, und man hatte das Gefühl, mitten in der Natur zu sein. Es war ein richtig schöner Tag!

On Friday morning, we visited the Student Art Exhibition and enjoyed looking at the creative works. After that, we went to Sulosaari, where we made a campfire, which was a lot of fun. We grilled sausages and marshmallows, and the weather was nice and sunny, making the experience even better.
In the evening, we attended the Kevari-Kevyen musiikin konsertti. The atmosphere was great, and the students sang really well.
On Saturday, we went ice skating with friends and had a great time. Later, we played games together, which made the day even more enjoyable.
On Sunday, I spent the whole day skiing in Ruunarinteet, enjoying the winter landscape and fresh air. It was a fantastic weekend full of fun activities!

Am Freitagmorgen besuchten wir die Student Art Exhibition und bewunderten die kreativen Werke. Danach gingen wir nach Sulosaari, wo wir ein Lagerfeuer machten, was viel Spaß machte. Wir grillten Würstchen und Marshmallows, und das Wetter war schön und sonnig, was die Erfahrung noch besser machte.
Am Abend besuchten wir das Kevari-Kevyen-musiikin Konzert. Die Atmosphäre war großartig, und die Schüler sangen wirklich gut.
Am Samstag gingen wir mit Freunden Schlittschuhlaufen und hatten viel Spaß. Später spielten wir Spiele zusammen, was den Tag noch schöner machte.
Am Sonntag war ich den ganzen Tag Skifahren in Ruunarinteet und genoss die Winterlandschaft und die frische Luft. Es war ein fantastisches Wochenende voller schöner Erlebnisse!

Yesterday, we had a great day in Punkaharju and enjoyed the beautiful winter nature. We rode mountain bikes through the snowy forest, which was both exciting and challenging. The fresh air and stunning scenery made the ride a special experience. After the tour, we had a delicious meal from the buffet before walking 30 minutes to the Lusto Museum. There, we learned more about Finland’s forests and admired massive tree trunks. The mountain biking through the snow was definitely our highlight – a wonderful day full of nature and great experiences!

Gestern hatten wir einen tollen Tag in Punkaharju und genossen die winterliche Natur. Wir fuhren mit Mountainbikes durch den verschneiten Wald, was sowohl spannend als auch herausfordernd war. Die frische Luft und die schöne Landschaft machten die Tour zu einem besonderen Erlebnis. Nach der Fahrt stärkten wir uns mit leckerem Essen vom Buffet, bevor wir 30 Minuten zum Lusto-Museum gingen. Dort erfuhren wir mehr über die finnischen Wälder und bestaunten riesige Baumstämme. Besonders das Mountainbiken durch den Schnee hat uns begeistert – ein wunderschöner Tag voller Natur und Erlebnisse!

Yesterday, we explored Savonlinna and discovered many beautiful places. We walked through the harbor and the old town, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and admiring the charming wooden houses. During our walk, we took part in a birdhouse tour, spotting many creatively designed birdhouses that gave the city a unique and welcoming touch.

One of the highlights was visiting Olavinlinna Castle, an impressive medieval castle on an island. There, we learned about its fascinating history and enjoyed the stunning view of Lake Saimaa. To round off the day, we visited the Riihisaari Museum, where we gained insight into the region’s past and its steamship history. The old wooden boats on display particularly caught our attention. Overall, our day in Savonlinna was a wonderful experience—the perfect mix of history, nature, and a laid-back city atmosphere. The imposing castle and the beautifully crafted birdhouses will remain especially memorable for us.

Gestern haben wir Savonlinna erkundet und viele schöne Orte entdeckt. Wir spazierten durch den Hafen und die Altstadt, und genossen die entspannte Atmosphäre. Während unseres Rundgangs machten wir eine Vogelhaustour und entdeckten viele kreativ gestaltete Vogelhäuschen, die der Stadt eine besondere, freundliche Atmosphäre verliehen.

Ein Highlight war der Besuch der Burg Olavinlinna, einer beeindruckenden mittelalterlichen Festung auf einer Insel. Dort erfuhren wir viel über ihre Geschichte und genossen die wunderschöne Aussicht auf den Saimaa-See. Zum Abschluss besuchten wir das Riihisaari-Museum, wo wir mehr über die Geschichte der Region und die Dampfschifffahrt erfuhren. Besonders die alten Holzboote haben uns fasziniert. Insgesamt hat uns der Tag in Savonlinna sehr gefallen – die Mischung aus Geschichte, Natur und entspanntem Stadtleben war einfach perfekt. Besonders die Burg und die liebevoll gestalteten Vogelhäuschen bleiben uns in schöner Erinnerung.
