If you want to experience the beauty of autumn colors in Finland, this is the time to come and visit Lapland to see "ruska" for your own eyes! 🍁🍂

"Ruska" refers to the season when the foliage changes color before blanketing the ground. This is a favorite time for Finns to migrate north from all over the country, to breathe the purest air in the world and hear their own thoughts again. With the most wilderness in Finland, there’s nowhere quite like Lapland when the leaves start to turn. "Ruska" begins in early September when the days are almost equal parts day and night. Birches become golden sunbursts, and aspens blush like young lovers. This only lasts a few weeks, and during this time, the temperature continues its descent. Everything is gorgeous, urgent and stunning.

Now in Lapland it is the perfect time to do some berrypicking! 🍒
Generally, the best season for picking berries in Finnish forests is from mid-July through late September. It depends on the berry type, location, and weather. Bilberry is one of Finland’s best-known berries and grows widely in forests and bogs. Bilberries are full of antioxidants and vitamin C and can be eaten fresh in the wild, frozen, made into juice or jam, or used in baking. One of the most popular ways to use bilberries in Finland is to bake bilberry pie, "mustikkapiirakka" in Finnish. You can often find bilberry pie in cafés! Bilberry picking is a popular hobby among locals in Finland as well. Many people pick berries to freeze and this way they can save some important vitamins for the winter.

Woof - say hi to Uuno and Q! These two adorable huskies and the rest of their big husky family welcomed us and a group of happy guests on a visit at Lapland Husky Safaris kennel! Did you know that in the summertime, our huskies are enjoying their well earned summer holiday? The training season will start later in the autumn, once the weather starts getting colder and the winter season approaches. But for now, Uuno and Q are chilling and taking it easy!

Lappish nature is not only magical in the winter, but offers great opportunities for different summer activities as well! So what are the best activities in Levi during the summer?

Levi is full of breathtaking natural views everywhere, especially in forests and hills. A great way to experience the nature in summer is with hiking, as there are multiple nature trails available. Even a short hike will improve your physical and mental wellbeing. Fatbiking is also worth trying for. There is not a long way from Levi area to visit our oldest national park called Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. More information of exploring and the trails in the park you can see from their website. ⛰️☀️

Traditional activity for Finnish people in summer is fishing. For fishing there are a lot of lakes in the area, but you need a fishing license for that. The license you can get easily from the internet or by visiting the tourist information. If you enjoy the water but are not a fan of fishing, what a better way to enjoy Finland, the land of a thousand lakes, than canoeing. Canoeing is an easy way to explore places you can't reach otherwise, to enjoy the nature and its sounds! 🎣🛶

Look at these beauties! 😍 Cloudberry is an appreciated delicacy in Finland, and Lapland is the place to be in late July - early August for those who love to spend time in swamp areas with mosquitoes while picking this sweet berry! But not quite yet - the ones on this picture from yesterday, they are still red so they need some time to ripen until they are orange and soft enough. As we say in Finland, the dear child has many names: lakka, hilla, suomuurain... Did you know that in Finland, we have a thing called "everyman's rights" (jokaisenoikeudet), which allows anyone to pick up berries from the nature? But let's always remember to respect the nature and be thankful for what it gives to us 💚

We conquered one of the fell tops at Pallas-Yllästunturi national park at midnight with a lovely group of international guests! Although the midnight sun was not exactly shining on this rainy evening, we still truly enjoyed the gentle hike and the amazing views of the national park! Here the guests are admiring the beautiful Pallasjärvi (lake Pallas) from Palkaskero fell.

Happy Midsummer everybody! 🌊🌈🌸

This weekend it's the celebration of summer solstice in Finland called "Juhannus". For most of the people it is the highlight of their summer, and Midsummer is usually celebrated with friends and family gathering together for example on a summer cottage.
Midsummer is filled with traditions of Midsummer fairs, "Juhannustaiat". Originally the purpose of these traditions was to ensure good health for the household or good harvest. They have also been used to find a future spouse. Also one of the most common traditions is to lit a bonfire near the water in the Midsummer evening.

This time of the year is magical here in Lapland, nightless nights, blooming flower fields and emerald green forests. One doesn't feel like sleeping with all this light around! We also have some company from 🦟 🦟 🦟x billions. So you must be prepared with suitable clothing (mosquito head net is a great idea ) and some mosquito spray that protect you from these little creatures. In the front of this photo we have the beautiful yellow flower called niittykullero, which translates into globe flower and you can probably see why.

The season of Midnight sun has started here in Levi!🌞

This means that the sun won't set below the horizon in approximately 45 days. Next time the sun will set in the middle of July. To explain the beauty of Midnight sun is difficult, for sure you have to experience the magical natural phenomenon yourself. During Midnight sun you should definitely go out to explore the pure Lappish nature, peace and light.

Happy May Day to all our followers! 🎈🎉

May 1st is Labour Day in many countries as well as in Finland. However, here we also see it as a chance to celebrate the arrival of spring, and numerous festive student traditions are also associated with the date. April 30 and May 1 are called "Vappu" in Finnish and "Valborg" in Swedish, which is also an official language in Finland. "Walpurgis" is the English word, referring to the feast of Saint Walpurga. All over Finland, people dust off their white, secondary-school graduation caps and wear them around town, and the parks are filled with picnicking partiers of all ages.

Or "hyvää pääsiäistä", like we say in Finnish. Today is the Good Friday which is a national holiday also in Finland. If you haven't tried any sweet treats yet, now is the perfect time to find many different kinds of delicious Easter eggs made out of original Finnish chocolate! You can find those eggs from the local grocery stores all around Finland.

For a couple of days now we have been lucky with the magical Auroras! 🌌✨️

In Finland, the name for the Northern Lights is “revontulet”, literally translated as "fox fire". The name comes from the rather beautiful myth that Arctic foxes produced the Aurora Borealis. These fire foxes would run through the sky so fast that when their large, furry tails brushed against the mountains, they created sparks that lit up the sky. A similar version of this story tells that as the fire foxes ran, their tails swept snowflakes up into the sky, which reflected the moonlight and created the Northern Lights. There are more tales and myths like this to be found among the indigenous people around the Northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia.

The spring is finally here and the sun is shining brightly! 🌞

It's been quite warm for a couple of weeks now here in Levi, the temperature varies between -5 and +5 degrees. There is still quite a bit of snow left but the spring sun just makes the weather perfect. The sun is warming up people's souls again after a cold and dark winter and gives big smiles to everybody's faces! Have you enjoyed the sunny spring in Lapland before? ❄️

Finland was actually the third country in the world and the first in Europe to give women the right to vote in 1906 as part of universal and equal suffrage. At the same time, women were also allowed the right to run for office in the elections, and in 1907 the world's first women parliamentarians were elected to parliament.

Some facts about Lappish nature!
A funny fact is that there are more reindeer than people in Lapland! 🦌
Sadly you can't find polar bears in the wilderness, but there is one in Ranua Zoo in Rovaniemi.

Lapland is filled with opposites and amazing natural phenomena. During winter time we have polar night, time when the sun doesn't rise above the horizon. In Levi Polar night lasts for a few weeks, but for example in the Northernmost village, Nuorgam, Polar Night lasts for 52 days. The opposite of a Polar Night is Midnight Sun, when the sun doesn't set. In Nuorgam, Midnight Sun lasts for a total of 74 days. In Levi Midnight Sun lasts also almost two months. ☀️ In Autumn and Winter time Northern Lights conquers the night sky, and in Levi you can see Northern lights for approximately 111 nights a year.

Lapland has a total of 7 national parks. Some of our trees drop their leaves in Autumn, but some trees are evergreen and have needles throughout the year.🌲 Lapland has the cleanest air in the world, due to small population and low traffic level. Lapland is famous of its berries, forests are filled with blueberries, raspberries and even more rare berries like cloudberries, and lingo berries, which are all free to pick!

Are you wondering what are the best safaris to do with children? Don't worry, we have the answer! 🤩

💯If you would like to experience the thrill of snowmobiling with the youngest in the family, we would definitely recommend the Snowmobile safari 2h. The children from 2 to 14 years old can sit safely in a sledge that is pulled by our guide with a snowmobile. If the child is over 140cm tall, it is possible to upgarde the child to sit on a back of a snowmobile when paying the adult price as well.

💯One of our most popular safari is the Husky experience 5km. Huskies are always a fun activity to do with the kids as young as 2 years old and older. The children can sit in a sledge that is driven by one adult and it's also possible to visit the husky kennel afterwards and pet the cute doggies.

💯The Excursion to the reindeer farm is just a must thing to do when the whole family is visiting Lapland! You'll get a cozy bus ride from our Safari club to the farm and back, a chance to pet the reindeers and a nice 1km ride on a sledge that is pulled by a friendly Lappish reindeer.

Here are some fun facts!

Lapland Safaris Levi has already done hundreds of safaris and excursions this season with customers all over the world. We've had customers coming from Thailand, France, Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Ireland, Germany, Finland, Italy, Spain, Singapore, Japan, Switzerland and a bunch of other countries. We have had over 30 nationalities visiting us here at the Safari Club in Levi.

At the moment in Lapland Safaris Levi we have over 100 snowmobiles in use, approximately 150 pairs of snowshoes and 50 pairs of forest skis. If you don't have the winter boots to match with your activities, don't worry! Here in Levi we have over 2000 pairs of winter shoes for feet of every size! ❄️

Why you should choose to have your winter holiday specially in Levi, Lapland? ☃️

☑️ Here in Levi there are 25 000 beds, 3000 holiday homes and 115 Northern lights accommodations. We have also 2053 Finnish saunas and over 12 000 reindeers in Kittilä area.

☑️230km for cross-country ski tracks and 28km for lit cross-country ski tracks, so you can go skiing by evening as well. From Levi you can also find 1000km for snowmobile tracks, a fun way to explore the Lappish nature.

☑️43 ski slopes from which 10 are for the kids and one Worldcup black sloap as well. Levi is also easy and fast to reach because the Kittilä airport is only 20 minutes away from the center of Sirkka village in Levi.

☑️In the center of the village you can move easily without the car, you have all your services near by you. In Levi we have an inclusive selection for over 60 different kinds of restaurants and bars. Levi village is very famous about it's vivid night life and Alpine village like city center.

☑️The National park of Pallas-Yllästunturi is under 15km away from Levi, which is a wonderful place to visit also during the winter.

☑️Levi Ski Resort is a pioneer in environmental matters, received the international ISO 14001: 2015 environmental certificate in 2018 as the first ski resort in Nordic countries. In August 2020, Levi Ski Resort was awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland- label.
