Meet the world’s newest baby mountain gorilla 🦍 born in the Bikingi Mountain Gorilla Family.

We are glad to share with you this first mobile image from our field team in Rushaga - Bwindi Impenetrable NP, Uganda

The baby was born to Adult Female Mucecuru who is a member of the Bikingi gorilla group, famously known for the Gorilla Habituation Experience. The baby was first seen yesterday but is expected to have been born on the night of Friday, 2nd February 2024.

This new birth brings the total number of mountain gorillas in the family to 09 (nine) individuals. We congratulate Silverback Kaharata (the dad) and Mucecuru (the mom) as well as the whole Bikingi family on this great news. We wish the baby a long and happy life.

Nyerere National Park, formally known as Selous Game Reserve, was declared a World Heritage Site in 1982.

With its sprawling waterway on the Rufiji River, it is the only National Park in Tanzania that offers boat safaris on the river, allowing a different wildlife experience.

The Park is also the biggest protected area in the country, with large numbers of lion and buffalo.
