Dordogne is home to some of the world’s most significant prehistoric art. The most famous is the Lascaux Cave, near the village of Montignac in the Vézère Valley (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), which contains nearly 600 Paleolithic cave paintings and 1,500 engravings, mostly of animals like horses, deer and bulls, estimated to be around 17,000 years old.
The original cave is closed to the public to preserve the artwork, but a faithful replica, Lascaux IV, is open to visitors.

Yesterday we visited Carennac in the Lot region. This gorgeous plus beautiful village was well worth a visit, we combined it with visits to Turenne and Martel where we stopped for lunch! All easily accessible from our gites and holiday homes and the perfect distance for a day trip! 🇫🇷

It’s a very autumnal day in Hautefort today. Luckily for us our job for the morning was here at the lovely Rediat Cor. We think this house is a perfect place to stay in all seasons.
