Being of a certain age I often view with wary eye any new technologies being pushed onto an unsuspecting public… one of the latest is ‘artificial intelligence’… as if that , in itself, is not an oxymoron.
Anyway, TripAdvisor have embraced (AI) and is currently using AI to scan contributors online reviews.. have reviewed our 209x5* reviews TripAdvisor sent us , unsolicited, the AI summary of all our reviews.. Well I now love AI as it’s summary is:

Sunday morning walks around the garden are a real treat right now, with many wild orchids that litter the uncut meadow and large wild daisies are a sea of snow from a distance.
Jack insisted on the walk becoming his latest photo shoot 😂 and of course I was delighted to oblige!

Very limited availability left for this summer.

Following dates for the lovely self catering 2 bed Gite are still available. Both bedrooms are ensuite and the Gite is fully equipped.

I thought I heard my first hoopoe of the season yesterday, and to my delight saw him this morning just outside the kitchen window!

The countryside is in full bloom at the moment and coupled with the beautiful sunshine we have had today I couldn’t resist stopping the car to capture the moment!
The fruit trees are of course « prunier Agen « the most delicious plums from this region of lot et Garonne.

The Agen prune produces 96% of prunes in France so you’ll not be surprised that there are a number Plum orchards here in the Lot et Garonne (76% production)!

The blossom from these orchards in Spring, although short-lived, is simply beautiful. Then in August the harvest of plums begin, a lot of tree shaking can be seen, and the plums are caught by long trailers positioned on both sides of the tree. Then off they go to one of the local prune drying units. One of our local prune producers also happens to be the chocolate shop Maison Guinguet, well it’s much more than that but I won’t diverse! Here you can buy prunes in a number of ways, dried, semi-dried (delicious), covered in chocolate (my favorite), soaked in Armagnac, or as a confiture or juice.

I can see a lot of noses scrunched up at the thought of prunes, and I would once be the same, but they are quite different to the packs of shriveled prunes found on the supermarket shelves. I have used them in many recipes, generally Armagnac is involved but when in Rome! Only last weekend I made a sticky toffee cake (James Martin of course) but had to improvise a bit as I was missing the main ingredient - dates - so I made an adult version using prunes soaked in Armagnac! It was a great success!

Mid morning coffee break!
And I have just had five minutes flicking through one of my latest book purchases and I’m in love! I don’t think I have ever seen a more beautiful book, full of information about the spices I adore to use in cooking, and recipes that I can’t wait to try, but which one first is going to be a challenge for me to decide because they all look delicious 😋

With my coffee break over I have to peel myself away from this book and continue to get the house shop shape for our next chambre d’hôte guests arriving this evening, and finish staging the gite for inspection day today to renew our gite classification 🤞
The weather couldn’t be more perfect ☀️

A place in the sun ☀️
If you have been to the Manchester property show you may now be even more focused on finding your dream holiday home or maybe starting the next chapter in your life by taking a bigger step to move to France?
The first decision in either case is « where? » once you have found the area the house will follow!

We are located close to the Bastide town of Duras, approximately half way between Bordeaux and Bergerac, and offer comfortable accommodation in our self catering gîte or b&b whilst you are exploring this area of South West France. Duras is just 3kms and offers several bars and restaurants, shops, a supermarket, vets, doctors etc, and estate agents .rouge .realestate whom you may have met at the show.

Labarthe gîte has two en-suite bedrooms, and an open plan living / kitchen area fully equipped with everything needed for your stay.
Availability in the summer months is limited but we have just received a cancellation for the first two weeks in July.

The final cutting?
Last night we enjoyed what may have been the last alfresco dinner of the year at the local Indian restaurant in Eymet, but rain has finally arrived in SWFrance and it feels quite nice 😊 it’s still a balmy 19 degrees so not all bad!

I’m staggered the dahlias are still blooming beautifully, could this be the last cut before they give up and bed down for the winter?

British Airways will offer flights from Bergerac to Southampton and London City during the festive season.

This announcement represents a fantastic opportunity for the region and for all those wishing to discover London and Southampton during the festive period.

For the airline, this is a first attempt, since it only serves the Dordogne in the summer, but if successful, it plans to extend the flight period in future years.

Flights will operate on Saturdays from 16 December to 6 January, offering travellers considerable flexibility.

A carnival of colours, the garden is looking beautiful at the moment, and the show has only just begun! The first of the giant hibiscus is as always taking centre stage, but will soon be joined by all the Dhalia’s that are growing like triffids this year and I can’t wait to see what colours appear 😊

Everyone loves a french market ☀️

With a farmers market happening every day there’s always fresh fruit and vegetables available, seasonal of course! And we all have our favorite, or two, market towns to visit.
La Reole it appears is a french favorite and has been short listed in the top ten markets in France!
Just 20 minutes from Labarthe, this Saturday morning market is located by the Gironde river.

The market is not only recognized as the most beautiful market in Aquitaine but also in the list of the 10 most beautiful markets in France.

TF1 will announce the winner Thursday, June 29 live on the 1 p.m. news.

To prepare us to welcome the result and above all to celebrate the great victory, already won, of the most beautiful market in Aquitaine, but also to have been raised to the rank of the top 10 markets in France out of 24 selected, the City of La Réole is organizing an exceptional market on Thursday June 29, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The market on Saturday July 1 is of course maintained.
