Get ready for some topsy-turvy reading on your summer travels through France. Upside down town signs in France are being used as a creative way to grab attention. French farmers are using this unusual protest to voice their concerns about current agricultural policies.

Breathe easy in the Dordogne, the fresh air is unreal!

Those vast open expenses of clear Dordogne sky, verdant forests and lush green landscapes not only make the region a haven for nature lovers, but are indicative of healthy and thriving ecosystems.

Night skies are clear and full of twinkling stars, summer days are filled with birdsong and abundant butterfly populations.  Even the prolific presence of humble tree lichens, which are extremely sensitive to pollutants, are clear indicators of the region’s clean air. 🐦🦋🌳

Go ahead, Fill your lungs, enjoy restorative deep sleep and simply breathe the natural beauty of the Dordogne all in…….

If you are flying into the South West of France, there are a few good airports within easy reach of Villa Perigord.  Bergerac and Brive are the closest and serve as a hub for several low-cost airlines.  Bordeaux and Toulouse are a bit further away but possibly offer more flight options and flexibility. ✈️🌤

All of these airports are well equipped with various car hire options, though it's always best to book in advance to get the best deals. Whichever airport you opt for, you’re going to enjoy a scenic drive before arriving at the Villa.🚘🏡

Don’t forget to look at train links too into Saint Cyprien or Sarlat if you’re up for a bit more of a French adventure.  Train tickets can also be booked online well in advance.

Easy.  See you there! 🇫🇷

Did I mention the private pool at Villa Perigord?  Measuring 10 x 5 metres, it's big enough to get in some proper lengths.  Surrounded with views down the valley and across the hillside behind the property.  Look skywards and you can often see circling birds of prey in the big blue skies above.

The south facing aspect ensures that the pool gets sun all day long.   Eventually the nearby cherry trees begin to cast shadows across the water and, if it's quiet enough around the pool, a couple of brave swallows or bats can often be seen skimming across the surface for a quick drink.

The Dordogne is a favourite holiday destination due, in part, to its fabulous climate.  The region consistently enjoys warm summers and plenty of sunshine with the yearly average estimated to be 2000+ hours of those golden rays!  There's plenty to go around!

Temperatures typically average 25-35 degrees celsius in high summer, making the climate  blissfully perfect whether you’re planning some sporty outdoor activities or simply wanting to lie out on a lounger with a book.

The Dordogne region of France boasts a vibrant market culture. Markets aren't just places to buy the freshest of groceries and artisan produce; they are bustling social hubs bursting with vibrant colours and enticing aromas and smells.

You can certainly find a market local to Villa Perigord every day of the week in high summer - this is just a small selection of our favourite markets to visit, but there are many more that you will be able to find and explore.

Whilst Provence is the region of France most associated with Lavender growing, the Dordogne also offers the perfect sunny climate for this beautiful and fragrant herb to thrive …and flourish it does in our little corner of France.

Lavender is renowned for its beautiful purple flowers and calming scent which attract important pollinators like butterflies and bees. The hum of bees enjoying the lavender in the sun-drenched garden is just one of the summer sounds to be heard at Villa Perigord, before they buzz back to the hives of the local village bee-keeper.

We gather and dry our home-grown lavender at the end of the summer season so its powerful scent can be used to make lavender bags which are popped into welcome gift packs for our guests.

Why is it that some drinks never taste nearly as nice as when you’re on holiday?
Thinking ahead here: Pastis over ice as the sun goes down on the verandah after a perfect summer’s day - who’s in? 👌🥂☀️

The Great Dordogne River!

Location, location, location is pivotal for any holiday home and it is certainly the river Dordogne that helps to make the setting of Villa Perigord sooooo perfect. 🏞

If you want to be super active, you’ll find no end of water sporting activities to suit including kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding.  River boat cruises offer the opportunity for you to take in the surroundings at a more leisurely pace and if you just want to enjoy a dip, then it’s easy to find small beachy areas along the banks of the Dordogne that make perfect spots to swim from.  Be aware there is a strong current in the Dordogne - but for some strong wild-swimmers, this makes for a challenge to swim against! 🏊‍♀️🛶🤽‍♀️⛴️

Villa Perigord is a very easy short 20  minute walk away (or a 3 minute drive) from the river.  In the early morning, you can often see a ribbon of mist following the river from the front verandah.  An early morning or evening walk to the river is a really pleasant experience to take in nature and local wildlife. 🦈🦦🐦‍⬛🦢🦆🐎🔭

In high summer there are a couple of small cafes and a restaurant situated locally in Port D’Enveaux, which make perfect informal lunchtime or early evening dining spots.  🍻🍔

Hot air balloons are a regular summer-time feature gently floating over the Dordogne valley (weather and wind conditions permitting). Early mornings and evenings are prime-ballooning times and luckily for anyone staying at Villa Perigord, we frequently get to see them drift with stealth over our rooftops and across our neighbouring village. Sometimes they can even be seen dipping low into the valley to glide just above the river. 🎈🔭📷

The whoosh of hot air fueling the balloon can be heard from afar and hearing one balloon usually means that there will be quite a few more following closely behind, all making good use of the wind conditions. It's a spectacle that never becomes tired!

There are several hot air ballooning companies based locally around us should you wish to experience the thrill of floating across the stunning Dordogne landscape - undoubtedly an unforgettable vacation experience.

Just a short drive away from Villa Perigord is St Cyprien. A gem of a vibrant French town and well equipped with amenities like a decent size supermarket, numerous bakeries, bars, cafes, banks and a post office.🛒🥖🍺🏧📮  It also has a railway station that directly connects the town to Bordeaux, Périgueux and Sarlat.🚉

St Cyprien is also the proud home of a thriving and bustling weekly market every Sunday, morning throughout the entire year,  twice weekly during the high summer season.  It’s well worth a browse.  From fabrics, fruit and veg, fish and rotisserie chicken stalls through to artisanal producers of cheese and cured meats, beers, honey, nuts and flowers…the offering is endless, seasonal and above all fresh.  Make sure to leave time  for a delicious coffee and some people watching from one of the pavement cafe tables adjacent to the market.☕️🥐

Did you know that Villa Perigord will gladly welcome up to two of your well-behaved furry friends?  Plenty of enclosed space for them to run around in and, although they are not allowed in the pool garden, there are some nearby slower-flowing river spots perfect for a paddle and many countryside walks to be discovered.  Alfie and Dot, shown here, highly rate the accommodation on our visits to the Dordogne.

Villa Perigord is just a stones throw from some of France’s most famous tourist attractions, but one of the greatest attractions of all, in our opinion,  is having the amazing “Les Gourmandises de Lucco” located just a 3 minute drive away. 🥐🥖🍰

A patisserie, bakery and chocolatier to boot, prepare for a taste sensation on your doorstep!  Look out for their seasonal confitures and tubs of delicious ice-creams too.

Just a short drive away from Villa Perigord lies the nearby historic village of Beynac with it’s famous chateau perched high up above the Dordogne river on a limestone cliff top. Its unmistakable silhouette is a distinctive landmark for miles around.🏰🛡⚔️

Beynac has medieval origins and narrow cobbled streets wind steeply all the way up to the chateau and adjacent church. The effort is rewarded with stunning views across the wide river bend below. Fortunately there are a good selection of bars and restaurants to rest and re-hydrate 🍻🇫🇷

Welcome to Villa Perigord: a comfortable farmhouse retreat in the heart of the Dordogne valley. 🚜🌤🐦🏡
The Gite is ideally situated.  Set in tranquil French countryside with it’s own private pool, it lies within walking distance of the Dordogne River.
Civilisation is never far away with the medieval village of Beynac to the east and the thriving town of St Cyprien to the west, both a short drive away.  🇫🇷👌
