Sunset in Deauville 🌇
A part of the ‘Normandy Riviera’ Deauville is a lovely sea-side town with a great beach, great buildings and an annual film-festival not to mention a renowned race-track, golf and a casino.
Deauville emerged from the sand dunes in the 1860s and was conceived with tourists in mind. At that time, only marshes lay between the sea and small hillside village. It is after World War II that the seaside resort’s international reputation grew to make it renowned worldwide today.

The Castle of Saumur sits above the lovely town of Saumur and commands some fine views over the town and the Loire river 🌅
With its white stone walls, slate roofs and the blue of the river the town is particularly attractive and worth the walk up to the castle.

This is Cap d’Ail ! ☀
Cap d’Ail is the last French town you’ll rush through before crossing the border to Monte Carlo 🇮🇩
Obscured by its glamorous neighbour, this place is mostly known for Plage Mala ‘the prettiest beach on the Riviera’ but that’s not all the little village ‘between sea and mountains has to offer. Along the way are authentic villas built at the end of the 19th century to house royalty and prosperous artists.

Welcome back to Lyon !
Winding their way through buildings, courtyards, and up and down staircases, Lyon’s secret covered passageways, or traboules, are an ideal way of visiting the city’s hidden past.
The word traboule comes from the Latin trans ambulare, meaning “to cross”, and the first of them date back to the 4th century. For centuries they were used by people to fetch water from the river and then by craftsmen and traders to transport their goods. By the 18th century they were invaluable to what had become the Lyon's defining industry: textile, mailly silk.

Starting 2021 the right way with one of the most beautiful villages of France: Saint-Cirq-Lapopie ☀
This medieval village is perched on a cliff 100m above the Lot river and is one of the best spots of the Lot valley. Saint-Cirq-Lapopie was originally built there for its defensive position.
On a prominent cliff at the highest part of the village, you can see an impressive 15th century roman style church and the remains of the fortresses that once stood here. Although little remains of the actual castles, you still feel a great sense of history and get impressive views from there.
It would be a shame to miss it !

Welcome back to Bruniquel !
We often talk about the narrow streets of french villages and Bruniquel is a perfect example of that. Taking a walk in its charming paved side streets is like stepping into the atmosphere of pomp and glory of the Middle Ages, is it also a chance to discover several stone residences from the 14th and 15th centuries.

The mediaeval town of Bruniquel, located in the Midi-Pyrénées, near the cities of Toulouse and Montauban, is an architectural gem.
The village is crowned by two imposing castles dating back to the 12th & 15th centuries, Renaissance style - perched on a cliff in a magical site near the Gorges de l'Aveyron.
The old town is a maze of steep little streets, old drystone houses and vestiges of the fortifications - a perfect place for strolling around.
Much of the beauty of the village lies in its authenticity and the feeling that Bruniquel has not changed for many centuries !

Continuing our tour of the Luberon valley, we’re taking you today to the beautiful village of Ansouis ☀️
30km away from Aix-en-Provence, Ansouis is on the official list of the most beautiful villages in France.
This village is typical of those in the region with quaint medieval houses, and quiet tiny streets. The village spreads down the side of the hill, with a castle above and trees and gardens between the streets adding further to its the appeal.
The castle was originally built in the 10th century but was modified many times over time. As a result, some parts of it are renaissance in style while others are medieval.
