Dear Guests,
For a first adventure into Europe Boulogne-sur-mer is ideal , less expensive than other areas and more easily negotiated because the people are friendly. One will soon begin to feel clever about having come to Northern France. This is not a 'touristy' area like Paris or Nice so it is possible to fit into society. Have ready a “Merci Madame et Monsieur” and also “S'il vou
s plait” before a question, you'll soon get the idea and before long you will have friends. London and Paris are equidistant so a trip to the 'West End' or a day in Paris can easily be achieved with a couple of hours on the freeway. Boulogne-sur-mer has many differing aspects, a much used fortified town with a sea port , a fishing fleet arriving daily to put fish on your doorstep. Probably the most memorable part of the visit to the area would be the markets which pop up on the town squares where one will experience a whole sense of French life. If you are visiting from England for some heavy duty shopping Auchan , the enormous store , is at the edge of town. There's a wonderful beach within the harbour and there is everything else from para gliding to land yachting. Not exactly undiscovered but less frequented than the popular spots the coast known as the Cote D'Opale is acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful seascapes in the world . The remains of fortifications from two wars and the roman occupation are ready to be explored in the great dunes along the coast. We have three little flats which contain everything for a lengthy stay including a flat screen 3D , HDTV receiving English stations. Most importantly there is a completely equipped kitchen together with a washer/dryer which will save you lots of money . Two of the suites have showers and w.c. But one has a full sized bath with shower and a bidet and is utterly French. State your preference when booking and we'll try to do it. Our hosts in Boulogne-sur-mer speak English, one is a Scot, they will be pleased to solve any language problems.
