Good to be back on the trails! Been off the bike for a few days with a nasty dose of man-flu! Thought I might not make it back before our season ends this weekend but stoked to make it out in time.

Don’t ever bet the house on me clearing a gap or rattling down a DH track, but if you need someone to ride the Switchbacks of Doom, I’m your man…!
Side note - the trail was soft and a bit slippy after rain the previous day, which definitely added to the squeeky-bum factor, but I really like that you can clearly see the separate (and very different) paths taken by the front and rear wheels through this very tight set of turns.

Alpine weather can be a little crazy. Photos 2 & 3 were taken on the same day (today) at roughly the same altitude. Terrain features can combine with aspect and altitude to give vastly different conditions at the same time. A little planning (and a little finger-crossing) can let us find dry trails even on days where the rain is bouncing off the chalet roof. Today, an unseasonal cold snap had left cloud and drizzle hanging in the Tarentaise, with snow on the tops. We had a little bit of snowy fun up on the Petit Saint Bernard, then dropped down into the Aosta Valley for blue skies and T-shirt riding for the rest of the day. Thanks to Rab’s trail knowledge from his old patch, I even got to ride a couple of trails which were new to me. We’re really lucky to be able to choose between different areas like this and find the best trail conditions on any given day.
