«TUCKER BRIDGE» Carentan
🇫🇷 En juin 1944, à la suite de forts affrontements, le pont reliant la ville de Carentan à celle de Saint-Hilaire-PetitVille a été détruit.
Impératif pour l’avancée des alliés, le 300e Engineer Combat Battalion est envoyé le 20 juin sur Carentan pour reconstruire ce pont qui sera remplacé par un Pont type « Bailey ».
Plusieurs jours seront nécessaires aux hommes du Major John E Tucker pour rétablir ce pont et ce sous le feu ennemi.
Le 27 juin 1944, le Major John Tucker sera tué sous les yeux de ses hommes durant un bombardement. Aujourd’hui ce pont porte son nom, car connu sous le nom de «Tucker Bridge». 🎖
En 2017, Bertrand de La Petite Musette - Militaria - Carentan, Normandie a réalisé un beau travail de mémoire et faisant ériger un monument à la mémoire du Major Tucker à proximité du pont. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 In June 1944, after strong battles, the bridge between the town of Carentan and the town of Saint-Hilaire-PetitVille was destroyed.
Imperative for the Allied advance, the 300th Engineer Combat Battalion was sent to Carentan on 20 June to rebuild the bridge, which was replaced by a Bailey bridge.
Several days would be necessary for Major John E Tucker's men to rebuild this bridge under enemy fire.
On June 27th, 1944, Major John Tucker was killed in front of his men during a bombing attack. Now this bridge bears his name, as it is known as the "Tucker Bridge". 🎖
In 2017, Bertrand from La Petite Musette - Militaria - Carentan, Normandie did a fine job of memory and had a monument erected in memory of Major Tucker near the bridge. 🇺🇸
