The Acropolis of the Périgord! 🏛

The bastide town of Domme was designed in 1283 on this rocky outcrop to keep a watchful eye over the Dordogne Valley and the enemy at bay ⚔️

So great was its success that once Domme even had its own currency 😮

Today, its medieval streets lead to one of the most beautiful panoramas over the Dordogne river 🤩

A unique example of Topiary Art in France 🌳

In the Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac, skilled gardeners are trimming shrubs, boxwood and cypress. Trees such as elm and hornbeam are delicately sheared using string, plumb lines and stencils.

The result is an amazing feast for the eye and some of the best "Jardins à la française" 🌿

What a shot! 🙌

The castle of Beynac emerges through the morning mist 🏰

Built in the 12th century, the château has seen its fair share of medieval fighting. It survived the Hundred Years War relatively unscathed and Richard the Lionheart called it home for many years 👑

Today, it is one of the best preserved medieval fortresses of the Dordogne Valley with magnificent views over the river 152 meters below 🤩

Did you know the Dordogne Valley has some of the clearest night skies in France? 🧐

With a very low level of light pollution and clean air, it is the perfect place to observe our galaxy and beyond 🪐

So find a blanket or a lounge chair and head to the garden. On the 5th, 6th and 7th of August, it is the best time to admire the moon, Saturn and Jupiter. And watch out for shooting stars...💫 ⭐️

A poscard from France 💌

Saint-Robert is a picture-perfect village close to Brive-la-Gaillarde. Built around a 12th century priory on a limestone plateau, Saint-Robert held a strategic position in medieval times as a gateway into the Périgord.
